The great pancake breakfast food poisoning of 2015 was just around the corner, don't you know? Be afraid. Be very afraid. Only a bureaucrat will save you now!

Ain't that the truth.

Could the government please stay out of my pancakes, please.

He has bigger concerns at the moment !!!

I will jump for joy when that fatbody is gone.

I actually met him back in the mid-90s when I was an intern for Matt Salmon. He is possibly the most obese individual I have ever seen in person.

I will jump

Take it to the spin zone please. We don't need that garbage here.

"According to PCPHS Director Tom Schryer, the breakfasts are a regular enough occurrence, taking place eight times per year, that a temporary permit is not appropriate."

This sounds to me like PCPHS Director Tom Schryer just proved that he is not smart enough to be in his position. He obviously does not understand the definition of "temporary".

Temporary: lasting for only a limited period of time; not permanent. 8 times a year is not permanent, it is absolutely temporary.

So, you don't want to talk politics......but then you talk politics, just a different flavor.

Ok.

No, Pinal County has its own flamboyant Sheriff. And I use flamboyant very loosely. This is the same illegal alien crime buster on Fox News all the time who is now running for U.S. Congress.

I might. Too early to tell right now.

I'm guessing the fly-in will start to decline now. A lot of locals drove out to the airport to support the Lion's Club. I can't tell you how disgusted I am that there isn't an allowance for this sort of thing. A regular event like this brings a community together; charity, community service combined with recreation. I heard that last month's turn out was disappointing, but maybe it was still a little too hot.

I probably should have known that but in all fairness, it ha been 25 years since I took an Arizona civics class.

My tin foil hat is itching.

I strongly sense the actions of the food truck vendor(s) at work here. Maybe a quick call to the Pinal County folks from the local burrito vendor truck owner? Hmmm?

Either way, prompted or not, this is something I would take to the mayor, and maybe city counsel. You've got a good deal going, and now I'm pretty sure it's going to fizzle soon enough. Nice job Pinal county, you saved a pilot from -- well, I guess from eating a few pancakes and getting fat.

Additionally, there is a huge difference between the Lions Club and commercial food truck vendors. Of course you can treat them differently, one is a benevolent service organization that serves the sight impaired community, the other just wants to make money. They aren't the same, you shouldn't treat them the same. Strike two against PCPHS Director Tom Schryer.

And I had the same thought earlier this afternoon - Gee, I wonder if the food trucks might have had something to do with the ban.

You need a f***ing permit to make pancakes? Orwell way, way underestimated.

The Coolidge (P08) fly-in has grown to be one of the most popular monthly aviation events in Arizona, sometimes attracting out of state visitors. Thanks to the do-gooder county public health department, the local Lion's Club was shut down from preparing the pancake breakfast as it has done for the the eight years or so because they didn't have a fully permitted food truck. This was a win-win for the community; a popular aviation event and a hugely successful fund raiser for a good cause.

Thank goodness we have the government to save us from ourselves.

Don't give up so easily. Where there is a will, there is a way.

In this case it is simply. Have the Lions clubs take the pancake machine out of the truck and use it in a hangar. Maybe as simple as pulling the truck into the hangar as it is leased space. :dunno:

We ran into that problem here with our monthly EAA breakfast. The health department wanted to shut us down also. The problem was we "charged a set fee" for the food. We simply put up a sign that said "free will donation" for a free meal. There is nothing illegal about that, so our problem went away. Sometimes it all about how the sign is worded. ;)

You have to beat the bastards at their own game. Call the press, TV, radio stations. Send letters to all the county commissioners, senators, mayor, airport authority, etc. Circulate petitions and present them to the country board. Basically, open a can of whoop ass like they have never seen. Don't stop until they offer to help make pancakes.

Getting into SZ territory, but...

I volunteer every year at one of the premier food festival is the country and it is literally run by 4000 volunteers and all the money goes to charity.

We were paid a visit by OSHA who came through and inspected everything and actually said...I kid you not..."I am gonna go back to the office and chat with my supervisor to decide what we will fine you for"...not "I am gonna let you know how to improve safety moving forward"

All of the "safety" concerns and government regulations are about to put the 35+ year festival out of business due to the burdensome costs (never mind that there has been zero significant incidents)...the community organizations do not need the $300k we give back annually apparently.

Quote trying to solve problems that don't F#&KING exist at the cost of those that are trying to do some frigging good!

What if Lions Club donates supplies and equipment and someone else cooks it (a line of volunteers?) and proceeds go to LC?

Health code rules are pretty goofy, and there are many loopholes for small operations. Generally "selling" vs "freewill donation" triggers a lot of rules that otherwise wouldn't apply.

That sucks. I hope they get the permit for next month. I missed it for October? Was it a good turn out?

Probably too pricy for the non-profit nature of the event. I'd guess that Lions doesn't do enough events to justify the cost of the permit, much less the regulatory burden it entails.

Probably still a problem. Health officials have shut down kids selling baked goods on the street corner because the "didn't have a health department permit or a business permit". Heck, in a couple of school systems around here, parents are banned from bringing homemade treats for kids celebrations (birthdays, whatever) - they are required to bring store-bought/store-made items. Bakery: OK, parent who bakes at home: banned.

And we wonder why big business gets bigger.

Exactly. Next they will be calling for increased taxes so the government can dole out the money to community organizations. Despite the potential for abuse.

There has been motor cycle clubs that has gone to this to eat pancakes and watch to look at airplanes. This event appealed to non pilots as well. Cooligge is out in the middle of pretty much nothing and it attracted people from all over.

I went to a pancake breakfast at the local fire department last week. I'll tell you... super risky eating stuff like that. ;) :D

The Lions did our biscuit/sausage gravy airshow breakfast. Between that and the pilot/performer/staff food table, I came down with something like the flu.

That breakfast was almost worth :D damn good biscuits and gravy!

The Lions are volunteers.
