Ive often found I can get more enjoyment out of my various hobbies or pastimes by combining them...take flying and amateur radio. Both enjoyable enough but also a lot of fun doing them on occasion at the same time.
Well today I’m enjoying reading POA while sitting in the deer woods, with my bow across my lap. Normally where I hunt I don’t get a cell signal but I’m on a big hill this morning that must face a distant cell tower. My view:

I used to golf a lot and thought it would be great to fly places and golf. well I've done that a few times, and it IS pretty awesome, but I don't golf much any more because I suck and since they are both costly hobbies I can't do both regularly. so I guess I substituted flying and eating, which is another hobby of mine.

I often hunted in a forest under the traffic pattern of my local airport. Every time a plane flew over was an opportunity to move without being heard.

I used my paramotor once to find a geocache on an island.

Another of my hobbies is flight sims. We have a set-up in the basement that mirrors the panel in the 182RG, down to a touchscreen that will display GTN650/750's. The software links to the Garmin Trainer app, so every key stroke is dead nuts on.

Great fun, and we've actually had several pilots down there learning how to use their new-to-them 430/530/650/750 units as part of BFR's my wife was giving. So much easier to learn the hardware in a controlled environment, with a wide choice of aircraft and configurations available.

Even those who came in doubting the value walked away impressed by the realism.

Jim

Flying and fishing works for me.

I suck at golf too. But have found my 10 handicap golfing friends (who clearly squandered their entire youth learning to hit a white ball into a hole in the ground instead of taking flying lessons) are happy to pay for Aztec gas to play other courses.

It took me a while to figure out they were just returning to me all the money they took from me over the weekend in the individual hole wagers.

I used to fly my T-Craft from CT out to Fishers Island, NY, to go spearfishing (Elizabeth Field is right on the water in Long Island Sound). Had two plastic tubs that fit perfectly in the T-Craft's baggage compartment, one for the dive gear and one for the fish.

Boats and airplanes are my hobby. Have to keep the oil companies in business.

Best combination I ever saw was the guy many years ago that would fly himself to golf vacations.....in a P-51. He discovered that he could fit all his clubs in the wing ammo lockers.

I combine bowling and skeet shooting. Usually only once per lane, though.

I would like to see a version of golf where the goal was to finish first rather than with the fewest strokes. It's hard enough to hit a golf ball where you want it to go, now do it when you're in a hurry and out of breath from running from hole hole.

@eman1200 , I know you’ve flown to go eat, I know you’ve flown to gamble, I even suspect you’ve flown to where the good hookers are, but golf? I ain’t buying it. :)

don't forget flying to a hockey game...….

but yes, golf. I used to play a lot, only hit the range twice this whole year. and no, I don't see planning any kind of PoA golf flyin, as you see what it takes just to get peeps to go eat....

My son is a big football nut. Each year we go to a couple of the local Lion's games, but, I mean, its the Lions, so it kinda sucks...I've mentioned to him that we should go to some other games, and how his dad has a plane, and we could pick any one of the 7 or so stadiums that are just a couple hour's flight away. He just shakes his head "no" because he doesn't like any of the 7 nearby teams either. He's 20 so his reasons for not liking the other teams can be funny, "Dad, Green Bay fans wear friggin cheese on their heads!" Oh well...

golf ... combined with skeet shooting.
Simultaneous "FORE!" and "PULL" :) and we see if one team runs out of golf balls before the other team runs out of shotgun shells.

However, I'm not sure how to score the ball being advanced by the hit of the shot ... ???

I've been wanting to fly somewhere to skateboard, I've been eyeballing Columbia, SC, there is a park walking distance from the airport. I might start off smaller though and try to hit a half pipe in Elizabethtown, NC which is a 20 minute hop. I just started skateboarding ramps and bowls(fake pools) in March this year, I bet I already have more hours doing that than flying, haha.

If any of you flying skaters out there want to hit the free park in Wilmington, let me know, I'll pick you up and drive you to the park and back:

I'm free most weekday mornings till 2pm (unless I get a job, haha). PM me if interested.

An adult version of Calvinball?

say like flying and barbecue!

Flying the Bahamas to fish works out great. Airports all over, Bonefish on every flat, guides, lodges and DIY opportunities abound.

Just spent an enjoyable 5 days at my wife’s favorite VRBO that has a beautiful bonefish flat right out front. Saw hundreds of quality Bones. The surprising part was not seeing another fisherman chasing them, which was good because these were some highly ‘educated’ fish that have seen a few Crazy Charlies.

This was our shortest stay so far after a few exciting days in Key West. Headed home to NC via Marsh Harbor and Ft Pierce tomorrow.

Drinking beer is one of my pastimes.

I like beer.

I can do it with most of my other pastimes.

Well, except for flying. Gotta follow that rule.

But I do like beer.

And women.

Beer and women go together well.

I like foamy head as well.

I'm still talking beer, you perverts!

Probably the cruelest location for a craft brewery. Hangar 24 at the Redlands and Lake Havasu airports:

I’m with you! Usually my cell service is spotty out here but it’s working right now. Seen a lot more bucks than usual this year. Being picky or waiting on a nice doe to fill the freezer.

The place in Florida I hang glide out of is an airport with a small grass strip. In a perfect world, I'd fly there (it's about a 2.5 hour drive, 30 min flight) in my Archer with my harness and instruments, set up my glider that's stored on site. Fly for a couple hours and then get back in the Archer and home for dinner. Plane can get in and out of the strip on paper, but need more hours and to fly off a larger grass strip before I try actually doing it. No problem to land, but not confident enough to take off yet.

My hobbies are flying and family history research. Haven’t used the plane to combine both yet but was going to last year. Had a trip to Boston to find the original land my 9th great grandfather had in 1650. Ended up flying commercial because I don’t have my IFR. Found the land though. Also found the land my 5th great grandfather had in upstate New York.

That's interesting...I also enjoy family research, and I have considered using my plane for it. My brother located near boston the tomb stone of my great great great great (4 greats) grandmother. The interesting thing is the tomb stone (and grave) is in someone's basement. Apparently, a house was built on a cemetery, and several graves are still in the basement. My brother said the homeowner is more than happy to let us in to see the grave.
My great great grandfather was in the civil war, and was the drum major at Lincoln's funeral. We have all his diaries, and I'd love to fly and track some of the places he mentions in the diaries. Also, his father died while traveling west on a train, and was buried near fort dodge KS, so I wouldn't mind going there too.

I enjoy riding either my bicycle or my Vespa GTV300 scooter to the airport to go flying. That combines the things I enjoy.
