I have to hold my door handle with both hands when opening it to go outside today.

The interesting bit is the local wind flow patterns. I get blasted and rocked by wind then it completely stops. While it's totally calm here, there's plastic on a fence about 200 feet away that's flapping like crazy.
 
re: turbulence - I would bet money it's out there. I flew Friday night, BJC - GXY - CYS - LMO - BJC and there was a pirep for mod turb at 9k 12SM N of BJC ... yep, found it at 8k about 20 minutes after the pirep. Had a pretty severe front cold front move in - 30* temp difference between BJC and GXY then.

edit - only found 1 PIREP this morning - maybe everybody else stayed in bed or got out of town before this blew in?

I had brunch with friends at Mimi's. Much more pleasant than dealing with the weather in a little airplane.

Well I just scrubbed a flight to the wilds of NW Nebraska tomorrow morning. I'm thinking the forecasts are pessimistic and I'll kick myself on the 5 hr drive. Oh well, I'm not interested in a "look-see" on forecast low ceilings and icing since there's a huge opportunity for get-there-itis.
 
I think I would have made the same call, Clark. Especially since "look-see" could easily end up with "180 back to the airport, begin the 5 hr drive 2 hrs later than scheduled".

Hmm. I'm planning to do some local IFR training tomorrow morning. I didn't notice anything unsettling in the forecast.

Where were the bad forecasts? In NW Nebraska, because CO looks pretty good tomorrow.
 
Yup, looks like hit-n-miss low ceilings across NW NE.

Have fun with the foggles! I definitely need to get back in the groove on driving around the sky without looking out the window. Hollar if you need a safety pilot. I'm around most evenings and some weekends.
 
I used to love the turbulence off of Pike's Pike when flying down near the Springs. :rolleyes2:

I learned not to fly under Virga too.
