But, only the name! [Imagine smiley breathing a sigh of relief]

Coke to Omit 'Classic'

After nearly a quarter-century, Coca-Cola Co. is dropping the word "Classic" from the name of its signature cola, parting with one of the most lasting consequences of its failed experiment with New Coke.

The Atlanta company has quietly removed the word from the label of a new 16-ounce bottle of Coca-Cola being sold now in some southeastern U.S. markets and plans to erase it from the rest of the brand's bottles and cans sold in the U.S. and Canada by the end of June.
Coke added the word "Classic" to its brand name in 1985 to distinguish it as the original formula after a consumer uproar over its introduction of New Coke compelled the company to bring the old brand back. So angry were Coke fans at the time that Chairman and Chief Executive Roberto Goizueta received one letter addressed to "Chief Dodo."
For those who don't know anything about Roberto Goizueta, he would be a heck of an inspiration for someone desireing to excel in life. He was a class act and the best asset that company ever had outside of its primary product.

As for the "New Coke," that stuff tasted awful. I remember it well. In fact, it was exceeded only by this new stuff called "Vanilla Coke." Yuck!

Nothing beats the classic!

Too bad they are not going back to cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. The only time I look to buy Coca Cola is when the Kosher stuff is available. That is still made the old way.

I'll drive this right into the spin zone, but let's put it this way -- if we reformed our outrageous sugar policies, which enrich a handful of Cuban ex-pats and sugar beet farmers, we could again enjoy soda the way God and Dr. Pepper intended - made with real sugar.

Jones soda is still made with cane sugar. Good stuff. And vanilla coke is my second favorite coke product next to cherry coke.

And crazy expensive for a soda, thanks to our country being held hostage by Alphi Fanjul and his family.:frown2:

'Tis pricey, but worth it if you want a true cola taste.

Costco has Coke made with cane sugar. It's from Mexico....and expensive.

Most other countries have outlawed HFCS. Coke in

Really? Where, for instance?

It's been a long, long time since I took biochem, but I think sucrose (beet or cane sugar) is digested down to glucose and fructose, so you're going to end up with fructose in your system anyway...

Funny thing is, from what I remember, crystal pepsi tasted just like coke.

and cocaine in Coke and Opium in Dr. Pepper. Bring Back the Original Formulas!!!!:yesnod::cool2:

Most other countries have outlawed HFCS. Coke in Europe doesn't have it IIRC

That's because in Europe they grow sugar beets for sugar (not really sure about the illegal thing anyway). There is no reason to qualify HFCS from Cane or Beet sugar for any reasons other than economic.

I'm drinking "real suger" coke but with Arabic writing on it. The first time I had a Coke over here I was amazed...it tasted great. I didn't know the story of HFCS in soda until talking with some buddys at the chowhall about how good the soda is here. I wish I could show you a picture of the pop top can but the Govn't banned thumbdrives on their computers... I will have to go the the mexican market when I go home!

The stuff from Mexico is cane. I used to get it at the markets in San Antonio.

You can get Coke from Mexico in Mexican stores and restaurants. For whatever reason the syrup separates to the bottom of the bottle so I guess you have to gently shake 'em up before opening. :yikes:
