Class II med average cost

Curious to know what the average cost for a Class II medical is? Is there a standard "shop rate" among AME's, or are all costs different?

They can vary a lot. The only way to be certain is to call each AME's office and ask. I've seen them range from $70 to $150 in my area.

My last AME charged $120 but gave a 50% discount to pilots.

I asked my AME last time I was in for my third, and he said he charged $87 for Class 2. That's less than what my primary doc bills my insurance plan for a routine checkup without vision and hearing.

Mine was $100 until this year, when it went to $110. This is a guy who has 2500 pilots in his book of business and an outstanding reputation for solving problems with the FAA medical department. I think 2nd and 3rd class are the same price, though I am getting 2nd class always.
