Anthony's Tiger went to Jeffco (KBJC) for a new transponder today, so we flew back to Front Range (KFTG) together in my club's Cutlass. Straight line from BJC to FTG is pretty much over the top of DIA and usually means circle north under the Bravo shelf and dodge towers, circle way north and triple the trip, or circle south to stay under the shelf, dodge Centennial traffic, Buckley ANG traffic, tall buildings, etc...

This morning Denver approach gave us an eye exam...

"Cutlass 77R, heading 090 and report a visual on DIA"
"77R has DIA at 20 miles" (it was a little hazy this morning)
"77R, turn to 120, report visual with the control tower."
"77R has the control tower at 15 miles" (still hazy)

We musta passed the eye exam, because the next thing Denver approach says is:

"77R, continue direct to the control tower, cleared thru Class Bravo at 7,500 to Front Range"

Whoo hooo! Time to go buy a lotto ticket!

Anthony, I was so jazzed about getting cleared over DIA I didn't offer stick time! How rude of me! Sorry!

You are just trying to show of to the guys like me who live around ORD :dunno::(

Me and Nick did a touch and go at KMSP last night. I simply requested it as kindly and professionally as I could and they vectored us around a bunch of jets and made it happen. Try that at ORD.

Greg:

We get that at D/FW frequently: they put us over the middle of the runways at 4,000 going west by asking us to overfly the towers (east and west tower).

We watch the big iron come in one side and depart out the other under us. A real kick.

Glad you got to do something like this.

Best,

Dave

That's when dyslexia comes in handy.

The same with Philly. The direct course from KLOM to the airports in southern New Jersey runs just to the east of KPHL. ATC usually approves direct as long as the winds favor the westerly runways. I can only remember one time that I was told to remain clear of the Class B, and that was at 17:00 on a weekday when the controller was too busy to talk to me.

There's a VFR corridor over the middle of SEA. Ask and you receive. No problem. :D

They aren't going to bill a light single for a quick touch and go.

No worries Greg. I was enjoying just being a passenger and actually being able to site see a little! Did you buy your lotto ticket? :)

Really enjoyed flying with you as always! Thanks.

Actually, I'm getting a new ELT, but what's the difference. ;)

It can happen at ORD, if you know the controller and it's 2AM.
