A freind of mine who still works at Willow Grove NAS (NXX)called me up today while he was on duty. Calling to make sure I wan't in the plane that just landed on the runway....,... I said, "I know better than that,... what was it an emergency?"

Apprently, from what he knows, the pilot was calling up Doyelstown Airport but was on the NAS frequency, as he heard the calls over the radio in the fuel station he works. Tower was apparently closed at the time, and he landed on the runway. Security briskly escorted him off the runway,.. and that's all he knows at this time.

Anyone from area know any more?

I haven't heard anything about it, but its hard to beleive anyone would mistake Willow Grove for Doylestown, even at night. There's a big difference... Like about 5000 feet of runway for one thing. Not to mention the runways are oriented 100 degrees apart.

Another 11pm news story, I'm sure. Geeezzzz what was that pilot thinking?

Oh yeah, it wasn't me!! :nonod:

Reminds me of a story from when I first started my flight training in Phoenix. Apparently a couple guys from the company's East coast branch in Jax were flying a Seminole to Ft Pierce/St Pierce...whichever one is next to MacDill AFB. They were both flying down to take their CFI initial rides, and lets just say they busted before it began.

The story goes that the non-flying pilot (sitting in the left seat) was trying to convinse the flying pilot (PIC) that he was lined up for the wrong airport, but the guy wasn't to be convinced. At least not until the security force Humvees met him on the runway before he reached taxi speed. Never mind the fact that the runway was twice as long as it was supposed to be and the taxiway exits were on the wrong side (thus demonstrating the incredible importance of a good landing briefing!).

Once they got it sorted out who was PIC, the non-flying guy was detained and questioned for about 8 hours, while the PIC was held for two days and (rumor has it) lost his commercial as a result.

Hopefully this pilot had a better excuse.

Check that guy's BA level. Ain't no way you can mistake WGJRB for KDYL. No way.
