I can say these “Special Edition” models have some appeal to Cirrus shoppers.

I recall when I had my “plain vanilla” 2003 model, Cirrus came out with a “Centennial” model to commemorate 100 years of powered flight. Had a special beige paint as homage to the fabric color on the Wright Flyer, chrome steps and maybe a few other doodads to justify the increased cost.

It irked me a tiny bit, because the planes of that vintage were having issues related to electrical connections and the like, and it seemed Cirrus could have focused on those issues rather than finding ways to superficially “gild the lily”, so to speak.

Still, damn nice airplanes and I enjoyed my 3 or 4 years of ownership immensely.
 
I wonder what this will cost. They made a special model called "Arrivée" that cost $1.124M in 2019. Over $1M for a single-engine, non-pressurized, fixed-gear airplane...o_O And people here are complaining about the cost of a used 182.

I would imagine those who complain about the price of a used 182 are not the same individuals who are in the market for a $1M airplane.

Granted, you’re right, they are non-pressurized, fixed gear and single engine, but truthfully, I don’t think that matters very much. You can use cannulas, so that partially solves the non-pressurization problem. Fixed gear is just less maintenance, yet these still cruise faster than a Bonanza or just about anything certified in its class.

The Cirrus is not cheap, that's for sure.. but at least in the realm of brand new airplanes I don't think it's an outlier.. new Bonanza, new Mooney, Malibu, new DA62.. if we are talking piston then you're basically right around a million dollars for anything new.

I wouldn't mind a Cirrus at all, but if I had a million bucks to spend on a plane, I think I might go with something used in that price range and get more aircraft, like maybe a turbine.
 
1 mil can get you a lot more capability, in a used aircraft, but there is tingle in flying something new. Kind of like cars. People still buy new cars, but for the same price, you can get a lot more car used. Nice thing about a new plane, stuff usually works and if it doesn’t it is fixed on someone else’s dime. Pretty birds.

Those were added by the owner; they're Bluetooth controls for music streaming from his phone. He also added a satellite Internet/SMS connection atop the right side of the panel. Interior video tour:

I've spoken with Brad many times. He flies across the lower 48 several times a year in support of his restaurant supply business. I think this is his third SR22.
 
That paint job is incredible. Wish I could get one these things, but for now I’ll be enjoying my 182

It really is a pretty machine! But yeah, I've come around to your line of thinking mainly because I've changed my opinion on new cars. Used to think it was a terrible decision for all the typical reasons, but as I got older the money wasted for buying new no longer moves the needle financially, so why deprive myself the enjoyment of a new car? Of course I'm not nearly in the same financial position to have that attitude for an airplane, but I can certainly understand it.

There's a pretty big gulf in operating costs between a piston and a turboprop though. You can finance the purchase, but the operating costs have to come out of pocket. I can also understand the desire to not deal with 40 year old airplane issues. With the 'chute, the cirrus is pretty compelling... probably why they sell so many. Ignoring depreciation for a minute, operating costs on an sr22 are probably lower than my Lance.

That gaudy day-glo green will look just as dated in a few years as the beige did for a few decades.

Did Cirrus get inspired by Nascar or by 80s fashion? What they say in the video cracks me up. Like they've done something new or innovative with the airframe itself. Couldn't finish the video before I had to say gag me with a spoon. Was only alive for 6 months of the 80s...did I use that phrase right?
 
Yes, the 80s are back style wise. I remember my ski outfits with the splash of neon colors rather fondly.
I asked my daughter's, they both said splashes of neon are back, same for lots of bold colors.
Personally I think the bright colors are somehow very retro and cool. But I do not think the pattern will age well. Oh well, it's only paint :)

There was a really nice MU-2 for sale on BeechTalk for $300k with two spare engines; pretty much the same price as the SR22 I co-own. It would be an excellent plane for traveling, but probably around $1,000/hr to fly. Some said it might be as low as $800/hr, but that's still too rich for me.
