Cessna Glare Shield Repair

For my 182RG, I got some material from Airtex, took it and the glareshield to an auto upholstery shop and had them cover it.

Looking ideas to repair / cover glare shield in 1980 182.
Top-shelf would be to replace it with a 3rd party shield. There are several options but I only used Selkirk products. If you plan to replace your windshield anytime soon, wait till then for the glareshield work as it gives you the best result with the window out. As to covering it if you prefer, stick to fabric material vs vinyl/leather as fabric lasts a lot longer.

Easier the windshield removed. Mine was replaced when I did an interior, panel, and window overhaul. New sheet metal and covered with Naugahyde. Selkirk makes fiberglass glare shields for Cessnas. No idea what it takes to fit and install one in a fully assembled plane.

Get some marine grade vinyl. The ones I’ve seen have a burn cert and if your a car 3 plane that’s all you need. You can cover yourself or take to a specialist shop (check with your A&P of course). $30 in product plus installation.
