If you have cash and want to put an engine on something...

The wave of older CAP aircraft being replaced by the T182T has finally hit the bid market.

CAP has finally gotten their bid process for used aircraft straightened out and online.

I know that the C-182 at KAPA (N6229E) was a solid-flying bird, but it hit the "magic" numbers of TTAF and the engine time that caused it to be put out to pasture, and has been sitting since 2009, for example.

Most of these aircraft will have very high TTAF numbers... they flew a lot prior to being retired. But usually also they'll have had good MX their entire lives. Almost all will need an engine...

I see by looking through the list that some are also retired because they had damage... so bidder beware...

Bids close the beginning of September.

Regarding the two that are near me, it seems kind of strange that there's only a $2100 difference between the minimum bids on a 182Q that has a buckled firewall vs. one that doesn't.

Yes, of course. How could I forget? :mad2:

I'd rather have one of the DA40 that the Doss (USAF Academy) will be getting rid of.

I didn't see any AFTT that would scare me.. ETT some are past TBO and some are tore down.

I wonder if the new owners will be required to paint over the cap insignia and get new N numbers.

The CAP lettering and insignia is vinyl. It will be delivered with the CAP insignia and lettering removed.

An owner in the club I'm in has 4 former CAP planes (1 172 and 3 182RGs). 2 of them are leased to the club. Of the 4, only 1 is re-painted, the rest are in CAP Red White and Blue livery without the CAP identifying marks and still have their original N-numbers.

He's probably going to bid on one of these, given his history. *grin*

Anybody know the condition of the 172P in Bloomington, In. N9732L

I reviewed the list and didn't see any really good deals

A 172 with a high time engine @ 25K and a rebuilt 180 horse will put you in a really nice 172 in this market.

Agreed on the 172s. A few of the 182s aren't bad if you have cash to put engines in them.

Nothing "spectacular" like the Buckley AFB (was CO ANG back then) C-150 that I and a friend bid on back in the 90s when it had a brand new engine hung on it and the brass shut down the military flying clubs.

Missed that bid by $500. Ha. Someone got a virtually new looking and flying C-150 for almost nothing back then. Cleanest 150 I've ever seen. Went for less than $15K back in 1992 or so. IFR, skylights, could eat off the floor. Perfect interior.

Nice bird. I never paid attention to where it ended up and don't remember the tail number.
