believe it or not - yes - all of them in NM if i can get permission. I have a goal of landing at every airport in New Mexico by the end of 2006.

I just hope they'll let me do a quick T&G and get the heck outta their airspace, providing they're not busy.

Have you checked out the procedures for getting permission to land at a military base? There are several forms to fill out, including one that your insurance company must do (and the minimum liability is more than $1M), and one that the folks at the base must sign.

ugh - don't suppose being a member of CAP, or having my father (retired military) on board would make it any easier, eh?

Being a CAP member in a CAP plane makes it real easy -- just go; IIRC, all CAP corporate aircraft have the proper forms signed and on board. Being a CAP member on CAP business with CAP orders in your pocket might make it a bit easier to get the base to sign off on the form for your own plane. Other than that, CAP membership won't help. Your dad's military status/presence might help get the base to sign the form if your dad had a legitimate need to be on the base (e.g., medical treatment at the base hospital) and your plane was the only way to get there, but that would be one base only and only for that purpose.

Maybe I'll go the CAP route then. I don't want to take advantage of anything like my dad and his health.

Its just a fun thing I wanted to be able to claim by the end of next year. I guess I understand their regulation tho - they have a lot of liability I'm sure.

I think the first word (RSTD) is "Restricted".

Nick:

I had trouble with this in the Dallas area; so, get all the Is doted and Ts crossed as Ron said. I had all the insurance, was a member of CAP but was in my plane. Called base ops and got permission for several of us to go to the base to get uniforms/equipment/PX stuff. Had approval initials.

When I called tower, they cleared me to land; then someone with a very stern voice called and asked for my Prior Approval number; I cited the initials. I heard some heated discussion in the backgroud. Was told to clear the airspace, we were not cleared to land. A later call to the base resulted in me finding the correct person didn't approve it. We went elsewhere to get our stuff; didn't want to ruffle any feathers in CAP or for the base ops folks.

Landing at every public airport in NM is a pretty worthy goal, too.

It'd be even cooler if on December 31st, 2006, you landed at every public airport in NM. :)
There was a couple of guys in MA that did that a few years ago to raise money for a charity. NM and MA are about the same size, right?

Hmm....NM is slightly bigger. MA is 10555 Square miles, New Mexico is 121598 Square Miles. Slightly under 12 times bigger :)

Of course I was joking about that. I was cracking myself up.
Just curious, how many public airports are there in NM. There are 33ish in MA by my quick count.

Ahh - I figured you were kidding, but from my time up in New England, I found that a lot of people don't grasp the sheer size of the southern states.

There are 57 Public Airports in New Mexico by my count.

A few guys did that in Florida last year. They used an ERAU plane and the fuel was donated from Chevron. They now hold the record for the fasted time to land on every public hard-surfaced airport in FL.

it was a good 40-some hour flight...if im remembering right.

I dont mean to hi-jack this thread...but i've got a question...now if someone were to want to do that...and had sponsors and such...would they need a commercial ticket??? And what if it were for charity???:dunno:

In case you get stuck again, our website does a pretty good job of converting FAA-speak airport remarks to plan english. Once you login, goto "Tools|Airport Finder".

Every paved public airport - if your flying a rental so restricted or your own plane which doesn't do well in the rough.

Where are you guys going to get a count (and list) of public airports by state? Is there anywhere you can get such a list by county/state?

Airnav.com allows browsing fields by state. Their site is having some really BAD slow hosting problems so I am unable to post a link, but plan to later ;)

Airnav has always been slow for me. For those who desire a tactile sensation, turn to the pages of AOPA's aprt directory for, uh, airport information. An added plus is they're listed by state.

I got my number from the little green book. I looked at each airport, and then found it on the sectional. Anything marked as an "E" or "PVT" on the sectional was left out.

And then the Military Airports were eliminated next.

57.

Massachusetts isn't that big, so I just looked at the sectional and started counting.
