My wife and I took a walk today along the Hudson River West of Manhattan. I was surprised how many fixed-wings were flying south bound in the Hudson River SFRA. In 30 minutes, I guess there were about 8 or so.

Many of them seemed to be flying lower than the 1000-1300 range. Also, although local metars are reporting overcast 4800, the cloud bottoms seem a lot lower than that.

Holiday sight seeing and flying south underneath the rather large Class B.

Any suggestions for airports to drop into if doing the SFRA tour for lunch?

When I passed through a month or two ago I did a lunch stop at Greenwood Lake, 4N1. Pretty decent airport diner tucked under the wing of an old 749 Constellation, located just a bit NNW of TEB.

My recollection is that 1,000'-1,300' range is for planes transiting the SFRA, local operations are *under* 1,000'. I could be wrong and always refresh knowledge whenever on the east coast with a chance to fly the Hudson. I keep the plane at Lincoln Park (N07) when in NYC for longer periods of time. The fees at Teterboro (TEB) are huge, though it's worth going once just for the experience.

I've never eaten at the Sunset Pub and Cafe, but it is on the field at N07 (Lincoln Park, NJ) which is just a 20 or so miles west of the northern-most part of the SFRA (Alpine Towers). N07 is north of Caldwell Airport (KCDW). Both are under the 3000 ' Bravo floor.

Sunset Pub and Cafe is popular with the locals, even those who don't fly in.

That BBQ place is really good!

The Grilled Tuna Salad at the Sunset Pub, Lincoln Park Airport is great, but I believe they've closed until the end of the year now that it's too cold to eat outside.
