I'm working on my intranet site at work and have come across an interesting anomaly. What I don't know is if it is a browser bug or not. I have a table with a column that can contain a character using wingdings as the font. It works fine with Safari, IE and Chrome but not in Firefox. Tried it on two different computers with the same results. To make sure it's not just me I'd appreciate it if a couple of my PoA Geek friends could try this http://www.victorycable.com/epstein/testing.asp in a couple of browsers and see what results you get.

What is it supposed to look like?

Nothing but IE here at work. If you don't have an answer by the time I get home, I'll check with FF.

Google "firefox wingdings".

My intial google-fu shows that they decided to not support the WingDings font because it's not part of the html standard. And it may not be on all computers (basically non-Windows OSes as I believe it's copyright by MS).

The hack to fix it appears to be broken in FF 3+.

From further testing and some IM'ing with my son it also has to do with the encoding style I saved the page as and the encoding the browser is set for. A lot of variables at play. It should be a single checkmark but currently renders as either ü or ü or ü (You'll only see different things if you use IE)

I get that last one on IE7 here at work. We have Wingdings, Wingdings2 & Wingdings3 installed.
