4 seats, IFR capable.

At 25k, brands C and B seem to be priced out, leaving cherokee 140s, aa5 travelers, maybe tri-pacers. Anything else I'm overlooking?

O-300 powered 172s can be found there, probably with ILS/VOR only (no gps or fancy panel stuff).

Many of the baby Beeches, Musketeer, Skipper. But the Cherokee's still represent the best value IMO.

I would bet you can find a lot of 172's that will go for $25k.

Use Trade-A-Plane and sort by price, Lowest to Highest.

Call on every plane priced less than $35k and ask them if they would consider $25k.
Go visit the ones that will.
Do a pre-buy.
Pay $25k.
Own a plane.

There is a lot of junk in that price range. I picked up a Cherokee 140 for that 5 years ago. It easily cost me that again to catch it up (bad pre buy A&P). I sold it a year ago for about the same price, so you may find a good one. Cherokees are a good value, though. At that price range you seem to see a lot of pencil whipping and such, so buyer beware.

Ugh, ads with no pics.

Sorry, not my ad. The guy has 4 planes, and an angry wife/GF. He's trying to save money any way he can. Plane looked ok, but will need paint soon. He taught his wife in this one, so pretty sure it would be ok mechanically.

No worries, I know it's not yours. It's just one of those things. How am I supposed to blow off time at work if I can't spend it staring at airplanes I can't buy...?

I responded to a no-photo barnstormer ad for my 172. Sounded great and figured it was an old fellow that didn't know how to take/upload photos.

He was 1.5 hours away by car, but only 20 minutes by air (pesky mountains) + only 2000' strip. Drove first.

I was right on all counts and put a deposit down the day I saw it.

So his wife is angry at his girlfriend? Maybe he shouldn't tell them about each other. Or offload both of them and keep the 4 planes.

A pa-28-140 is your best bet. Lots of reasonable airframes at that price, some with sufficient IFR gear to do some approaches. They won't be the cream puffs, though.

We got our Cherokee 180 for that. Paid cash, and flew it home.
Had a blast with it for a few years, with no major mx troubles.
