For those that have the Discovery Channel..there is an interesting segment on the show "Belly of the Beast" on right now that's all about helicopters. Comes on again on Dishnet at 11pm central if you missed it.
 
Darn. Missed it.

I set a season pass, so I'll get it if they repeat it.
 
I caught part of it. Pretty cool! Thanks for the heads up!

According to the schedule (link above) that episode is "Tanks." You're welcome.
 
I still have it on DVR and could probably put it on tape or burn it to a DVD if anyone wants it.
 
I saw it last night. Pretty decent program. He covers a pretty wide range of a/c types, and does a decent going over of how helicopters work. Even tries his hand at flying one.

What and risk a copyright violation??!!!! The copyright police will be storming into your house at any minute now!!!!

I watched the program and enjoyed it. The guy showed appropriate respect for the fact that he couldn't just hop in and fly it, and that the instructor knew his stuff.

Definitely worth watching, and reminded me of some of the fundamentals. Although what they didn't get into was how piston helicopters have a collective that is also a throttle, whereas my understanding is the turbine ones just automatically throttle. A helicopter definitely keeps your attention up, having as much going on at once as you do.

Maybe I'll be safe as long as I don't charge anyone for it...or I don't take a copy through a security screening line at the airport. :rolleyes:

Well you can make a copy for your personal use but once you share it there is a good chance you violated the terms of the copyright and the RIAA SWAT team will come barging into your home and demand that you pay them their money x 1,000,000! :eek::eek:

I wonder why the Discovery channel doesn't even have it listed as a show on the main site. Is it fairly new? I've never seen it before, but I did enjoy it. I'll have to set the DVR to record a few more episodes and see if it's worth adding to my-already-growing-too-large list of shows now. I would hope they'd add it to the list of of past episode videos available from the website.

Actually (seriously) they're trying to get the power to throw anyone they choose off of the internet on their say-so. So far, even countries in Europe have failed to let that get to reality due to the outcry, but it was close.

my name is vicky and i just found this website and i think is really cool ....i was actually looking for the belly of the beast episode and i came across this forum....my husband just became an IP an he was actually one of the pilots in that video and since u said u recorded it, do u think u can send me a copy please?..i already checked the schedule on discovery channel and its not showing for a long time

Ahh! After I had no takers a week or so after this was posted, I took the lock off the recording. When I get home, I'll see if it's still on my list of recorded shows, but I think it's rolled off the list by now. :frown3:
