I started to look for (Tri-)Pacers and checked Barnstormers like 15 times a day for new postings. The last few days have been emotionally very challenging, because their site is down... :( :eek:   :D

Well, I guess I could go flying - the weather however also doesn't cooperate. Life's a b!tch. ;)

Seriously, does anybody know what's going on with Barnstormers?

Get one..??? :lol::lol::lol:

I feel for ya buddy, airplanes can be addicting...

Not grooving on the cached image of Barnstormers showing up. Not sure what's happened with their server.

More time on PoA? :p

(Suggest you ask for opinions about whether a Tri-Pacer is really the right airplane for you, and why you aren't considering a Bo. Or a Mooney. Or a... ;) )

Go over to trade a plane for a day or two.

That hasn't stopped them from emailing me all sorts of spam though......

Here ya are:

BARNSTORMERS WEBSITE
Announcement

On Thursday morning, December 8th 2016, Barnstormers.com website servers experienced a major systems hardware failure that has caused the Barnstormers.com website and email services to be offline. We had hoped that the website and all the services would have been restored by now. We remain offline as our hosting company has been working diligently to restore our site and all services on new servers. This takes time.

We apologize to all our users, visitors and advertisers for the disruption of service. We want you to know that we are doing everything in our power as fast as we can to have everything restored.

Everyone here at Barnstormers.com wants you to know that we tremendously appreciate and value all your support and business that you have given Barnstormers.com which is now in our 22nd year of business. We have been told that it may take another 24 hours before we will be back online. Hopefully, we will continue to be the #1 Aviation’s Busiest Marketplace!

Thank you and see you soon at “Barnstormers.com”

Controller and Trade a Plane are both good for window shopping. I agree with GRG, sounds like more time to spend on POA!

Perhaps they can take the opportunity to redesign the site so it no longer looks like a middle school student designed it in 2002.

Their server and hosting setup must have been from 2002 too.

I don't mind their old school look, but they need to develop an app for us to waste more time on our phones...

I liked the old look,I knew how to find what I was looking for. T-A-P just overhauled their site now looks like a POS.

PoA is always a good way to waste some time on, no question. Getting a life and doing something useful might indeed be another, albeit less fun option. ;)

Another aircraft website, which I hasn't been mentioned yet, is http://www.aso.com/ .

Still though, despite of the poor layout, barnstormers.com is my favorite. Particularly when it comes to older and less expensive aircraft. I hope they will soon get it fixed. :(

The TAP app for iOS is a dumpster fire. Here's hoping if Barnstormers ever goes mobile it won't also be a flaming wreck

Its killing me. I've reached the end of the internet in my search for a C150. The only thing left is barnstormers.

Russians.

Maybe the Chinese?

Unless it's hardware (e.g. Server)... then it could be the Koreans. Or this guy...

I like Tri-pacers. They are like an old friend you don't see for years, then one day you bump into one and it's like you were never away.
That's a good thing for a plane.

Was it run in a guys basement in Buffalo? You would think they would be back up by now. There are these new fangled things called backups.

I am really surprised that they are not more popular. We are looking for a fun, high wing plane, with decent performance and with which we can also fly into shorter / softer / rougher grass strips, however without spending more than $30K. For that kind of money, we should be able to find a really nice Pacer or Tri-Pacer with a 150 or 160 hp O-320 engine. The rear door also comes in very handy for loading stuff into the plane.

In this price range, Piper (Tri-)Pacers seem to offer by far the best bang for the buck…

Great planes but the whole piper one door thing is a bit of a pain. The colts are nice too. Lots of useful load for a two seater.

I also see having only one front door as a big negative, particularly with our Mooney, which is not easy to get in / out of for older / bigger people. I would like to help my passengers, what I obviously can't because I have to hop in first. I don't even want to think about how to get out in an emergency, with a possibly injured passenger. :(

My wife and I are both pilots, have no problems getting into the plane and rarely take passengers. For us, it is therefore not that big of a deal, even though a second door would still be nice.

Interestingly, a second front door can be added to the (Tri-)Pacer, I however don't know about the costs and how much work that would be.

A Cessna 175 appears to be the only alternative to the Pacer within our budget, I am however concerned about the spare part availability for the GO-300 engine and its gearbox... :(

My dad has a 1960 175. One of Cessna's most under appreciated airframes. Picked it up two years out of annual at a local field. Guy lost his medical.

81SMOH due to a light prop strike.

Plane went through annual painlessly twice while he's working on his PPL still in it.

While I'm a sucker for Tripes, the 175 is definitely more plane and a great value for the dollar.

If your gearbox comes from together, slap an O-360 in it and fly for many more years to come.

Of course, I love Tri-Pacers so much I bought the next best thing-- MXT-7

Not sure how much the upgrade to an O-360 would cost. When we (briefly) thought about it for our old 172 with the O-300 engine, it was however cost prohibitive.
Now, a Maule would be the perfect plane for our mission, particularly with the two doors in the back, they are however definitely beyond our budget.

It's ALIVE!!!

Amazing! Thanks for the update!

I flew one with 2 doors (seaplane option). It wasn't until a couple of years later that I realized most Tris didn't come that way from the factory.
Wonder what that would cost to have done?

It's out of my budget too, but I just couldn't resist ducking out of work early to go practice landings.

I offered my time to them to help with any upgrades/updates to the site. 15years of web development and I'll do it for free. Had an odd discussion with "The Baroness" about building the next Facebook. Only after I signed off, did I realize she has probably been hit up by sharks trying to buy her site, etc. She thought I was one too and was playing me. Shame, the site has a lot of data and traffic, but the organization and UI sucks! After being on it for months, you start to become comfortable with it. Who the hell uses FRAMES anymore to separate navigation!!!!???

I'm still pondering about making my own site. All these aviation sites suck in my opinion. They need to approach the daily "plane porn" users differently.

Call me old fashioned, but I like the ability to construct searches with a simple GET request; makes it easy to save a "cheap planes near me" bookmark :)

You bought a tricycle gear Maule?!? Wtf is wrong with you!!! That's like taking an ice cream Sunday and putting kale in it.
