B-52 down in Guam

Kiss your tax money good bye.

I thought those things were fully depreciated decades ago ;)

Talked to the pilot of one of those things up from Barksdale for an airshow out my way last summer. She said she was flying some of the same tail numbers as her Dad.

"“The B-52 is a symbol and a strategic projection of power,” said Maj. Luke Dellenbach..."

Well, not that one Luke.

The B-52s may be the most cost-effective airplanes in the inventory. Too bad to lose one. Good that the crew got out safely.

I think that means there are only 57 H models left.

Glad to see that the crew got out. The Air Force will just have to take another out of the boneyard.

They've been chopping them up IAW the SALT Treaty. Believe they have to do so many in a certain time period with a Russian satellite overhead. Think they took one out of the boneyard a few weeks ago, so maybe that will happen in this case.

I believe there were 106 H models 97 still around last april so there are backups .. you do not want to stop for gas on your credit card 48,000 gallons . leave the fuel stop without putting your tail number in :)

Great birds. All high altitude now, no low level.
I've got my time in G models, all retired now.

7 on the crew. Must have been a ground egress. Only 6 ejection seats for the normal crew of 5.
I believe the gunners are gone. Not sure if they went to one Nav, used to have two.

Pilot, Copilot, Nav, Radar Nav, EWO, Gunner, when I was flying.
Still had the sextant, no GPS.

without having seen her, dibs :)

Talked to some guys at work today. Looking at photos of the burned hulk. The crew area was still intact.
Looks like a takeoff abort, stopped and hot brakes started a wheel fire. Ground egress.

All speculation, but seems more reasonable given the results.

It was not a crash.
