autolite plugs

How long has it been since plugs were sold under the Autolite brand? Guessing a long time.
UREM37BY replacements are on the way.

Spark plug age is really not important if electrodes and spark gap are ok, and they have not been dropped. I think Tempest bought Unison who made Autolite...I might be wrong.
 
I've read that massives only last 300-500 hours, and I couldn't find any mention of them in the last 10 years of logs.

You're right. Autolites weren't that long ago.

The old Auburns used to give me 800 hours.They came with a 400-hour warranty. If your Autolite plugs pass the pressure bomb spark test and the electrode wear is within limits, they should be fine.

Well, my asymmetric mag drop at 1000 rpm went away with the new plugs.

Is TCP overkill with the UREM37BY?

I'd be interested in thoughts on this question too.
In my new-to-me 150, I plan on adding TCP and using those plugs as well.
 
If I was worried about lead plug fouling, before I messed with TCP, I'd fly the UREM37BY for a while with careful leaning.

OTOH you may have some other lead-related concern.

Yes the "other concern" is exactly it. I am thinking about using TCP in addition to the plugs to help with lead buildup around the valves.
 
Proper leaning helps with the valve guides too, but I'll wait for someone with Continental expertise to chime in. Which engine in your 150? I think most had O-200-As.
 
Leaning is key, no doubt. Yes, I think all 150's have an O-200A unless modified.

I used UREM37BY’s for a couple hundred hours in a O-200 and I never used TCP. With a lot of leaning on the ground and in the air there were no obvious fouling issues. When the plugs were pulled to clean and regap lead was still balled up inside the but the fact that the electrodes protrude further into the cylinder allow the business end to stay clean.

I just put in new UREM37BY in my C150 but we burn autogas most of the time so never have to worry about fouling or forgetting to lean on the ground.
