ATC loses separation. One of the planes, on the SAYGE 6 arrival, cleared direct SAYGE after waypoint was passed. That plane does a 180 to go direct SAYGE, conflict ensues.

Now, the information is limited, but isn't this a situation where you ask ATC "Uh, we're already past SAYGE, are you sure you want us to turn around?"

Yup... Thats the question I would have asked.:yesnod:

Same here. I thought I already posted that but it must have been... somewhere else.
I think I might not have questioned it outright but I would have said something like do you want that turn to the left or the right? That would have made them think about what they were asking me to do.

Sometimes people will punch waypoints in without knowing or realizing where it is, then letting the AP do....what they told it!
I try to go into heading mode when making reroutes, then assessing the offered courseline.

Fixed it for you :yikes:. More situationally aware RJ captains who aren't true airmen.....sigh.

I was a little southeast of Toledo, heading about 290 or so. ATC gave me an amended routing with the waypoint being somewhere between Akron and Youngstown.

"Whazzat?"

"That's just what the computer gave me."

"Ok, I'm not going that direction."

Don't know what was said, but the pilot did question the clearance.
7NEWS was told the Republic captain questioned the controller's command, which was repeated.

Hey Bruce :)

The Capt asked 2 times, "are you sure you want us direct SAYGE?" He was not on the arrival, but parallel the arrival after being given a delay vector. It was not a 180 turn, but a 90deg turn to go direct. Giving that he was already being delay vectored, it would not be out of the question to be turned 90deg to join the arrival.

After talking to the controllers boss, it was stated that the controller was thinking WITNE, but saying SAYGE.

Don't believe anything you read in the press..... I thought Y'all knew that?

We, At Republic, operate 230 EMB Jets & 10 CRJs .. over 1600 flights a day & have for 36 years without a fatality..

Dumb RJ pilots? I think not.

1. Hey, Eamon, good to see ya'!

2. Freaks me out, seeing someone (Mtn flya) replying to Dr. Dave, with that Avatar.

3. You mean Regional Jet pilots actually train for their jobs? :D

I have had many careers, went through many training programs.... 3/4 of the way through, I thought I was never going to make it through the initial training here. Maybe this old dog is just getting to old to train :)

Cheers

I may have stolen his avatar, (Sorry Dave!) See signature...

It's all good :)

I have a 1964 Musketeer which I call the mouse (from the Mouseketeers which you are prolly to young to know about, but let me tell you...Annette Funicello was WAY hotter than Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears {all of whom were mouseketeers})

The Avatar is there to remind me of what my first landings were like in it.... (bouncing Mouse) :drama:

All is good, my friend - no problem sharing things of beauty!

And to be fair, you cannot be much more artfully crafted than the inimitable Bellanca Super Viking.
