Arkansas places to fly?

Looking to hear some suggestions for cool places to fly a C172 in Arkansas? Located in central Arkansas but looking for some cool day trips to take the girlfriend on.

I know Gaston’s is a hit but I will do that with my old instructor a time or two before I venture into that area by myself or with passenger.

Other ideas?

Kidding right? Gastons was my first grass strip ever. Went with a friend out of Cabot and it was a total non-even. It's not like trying to slip sideways into a rock sand bar in France.

Pine Bluff has THE best soul food place right there inside the FBO. Only open Mon-Friday, and get some pie too. My avionics shop is on the field as well if you need an IFR check or the the likes.

There a few few adventure strips if you are into back country flying. Either AOPA or EAAs mag had an expose' on AR flying for back country folks the last few months. Find the rag and read up.

Over the river to Tueplo and they will drive you over and pick you up to the casino.

Awe man.. Was it Pocahontas or .... Can't remember the airport name. There is a 737 on the field converted into a restaurant. Food is OK, but all the overheads are graffiti'ed with pilots names and cert numbers. It's an old Army field with a museum.

Ain't nuthin at Petit Jean, and you just missed the RV fly in. Where you based at?

I think Gastons is a great place for you guys..... Get a room and stay over night bro... It'll be a sure thing! :blowingkisses:

Pine Bluff; I stopped in there a few months ago for fuel and lunch... at around noon to 1, the place was packed! I normally don’t do the whole Southern cooking (aka, fried) thing, but the roasted chicken with taters and veg was pretty freakin good.

The on-field 737 diner (ex-SWA 737-200) is at Walnut Ridge, ARG.
 
I agree that Gaston’s is sometimes viewed as some difficult place to fly into. It’s just not. Yeah it’s nestled down in the valley but the surrounding terrain is nothing to be scared of. The people that get into trouble at Gaston’s are most often heavy. Don’t try to get out of there over gross at noon in August and you’ll do fine.

Gaston’s is great. Took my wife there on an anniversary trip last year in the Cherokee 180. Haven’t yet taken the Saratoga in there but wouldn’t hesitate to do so. It’s not difficult. Don’t let anyone discourage you from that flight.
 
I’ve had my Lance in.... if I can do it, a brick with wings can too....
 
The Parachute inn is the diner in the 737 at ARG. I believe it is closed now though, there has been talk of re-opening it, not sure if that has happened yet.
