Applied for the AOPA Flight Training Scholarship

Last night, I applied for the AOPA Flight Training Scholarship hoping that if I win one it would be enough to complete my sport pilot training. However, I am not sure if I had a favorable answer when I answered the 4 essay questions since I thought my essay responses weren't long enough. I asked 2 people who know me well to write me a letter of recommendation, as required by the application. I was wondering if the letters of recommendations would carry more weight if they write an excellent recommendation to make up for the essay questions I answered to. BTW the person writing the recommendation actually has to answer some questions about the applicant rather than writing their own letter of recommendation.
