Has anyone worked with AOPA to help get their Medical deferment completed? How did they do?

Nothing happened for five? months so I called AOPA. Started getting an update every two weeks. Magically it was over a few weeks later. Coincidence? Who knows

I've a simple case and its been about the same 4.5-5 moths - it went into review 3 weeks ago...Hope they finish or AOPA pushes it to get finished.

AOPA does not have the ability to move your application to the front of the line.

Well that wouldn’t be fair but I think more than anything some better timeframe and communication from the FAA. “Just wait longer” isn’t okay.

sooooo no help...same as FAA "just wait longer"

Good morning Mr. Curtis,

Our FAA inquiry came back this morning suggesting the physician who has your case has been emailed (in an attempt to get the case looked at). Our next inquiry is set to go back out to the FAA the week of Feb. 20th for any further update that might be available.

Thanks,

I have nothing kind to say about AOPA's medical department. They're not doctors, nor are they trained experts. They were part of the reason I got grounded for 12 weeks a while back. It's odd, the legal guys at AOPA seem pretty sharp on the other hand.

AOPA is a fantastic organization. Both my business partner and I are members. However, their medical advice is lacking. They can answer simple questions. They can try to prompt the FAA. But they cannot actually guide you through a complicated process or move your case. Even with us, we will only go VFR direct to a FAA physician if we see the FAA has made an error. We will inquire if a case has taken an inexplicably long time.

I used to advise AOPA from the board of Aviation medical Advisors. Email me if you need more, I’m not going to write it here.

ANY airman can call on his case. And so can any AME of record, too.

Thanks for the info and support - I called yesterday and confirmed its with the final "reviewer/doctor" at the FAA and will be work in the order it came to them. Soon I hope.
