Question pretty much says it all. I'm looking at switching our G1000 over to a Garmin package that includes nav data and cancelling the Jepp subscription.

When you do this, where do you go to get your updates? Or does Garmin just separately sign you up for Jepp, since they're probably the ones packaging it up anyway?

Go to flygarmin.com
They have their own update utility - works good
You can also download the files (save the key codes) and take them to your plane on a laptop.
Did I mention no pain in the butt when you update both the pfd and mfd card? Garmin utility allows you update both with no phone calls to Jepp. Last I checked Jepp couldn't do it.
On a budget this year and was too busy flying other peoples airplanes, so just got the eastern us subscription from Jepp (garmin doesn't do regional), but enjoyed my pilotpak last year

I'm currently looking at converting as well for my GTN. I believe Jepp does the Nav update (28 cycle days) for themselves and Garmin. Garmin does the obstacle, terrain and SafeTaxi (56 cycle day) for themselves and Jepp.

This causes some out of cycle issues if you use Jepp because the 56 day cycle stuff is limited to one download. Garmin allows multiple downloads of the obstacle, terrain and a SafeTaxi but charges a bit more for this. This is an issue if you like to use two data cards.

Anyone know if it works on a Mac? And is it the Garmin Communicator Plugin you're referring to, or something else? Garmin's site isn't very clear on how the process works, part of why I'm asking here.

Not sure what you mean. On the Jepp subscription, I put the data onto a single SD card, take it to the plane, put it in the top slot of the PFD, turn the master on, hit enter a couple of times to accept the update, wait for it to be finished, turn the master off, move the card to the MFD, master on, update, master off, take the card home for the next update (and replace the card I keep in the upper slot on the PFD to log data for maintenance purposes).
