Adios!
Greetings all! who would be interested in a POA lunch meetup? I realize folks are scattered all over but thinking NY-NJ as a central point for the Mid-Atlantic / Northeast folks. Dates and locations are open for discussion....

If y'all can wait until my 10-day gig starting tomorrow is up, I'd love it. Say Sat, Jan 19 (after which I'm probably off to Texas for 10 days starting the 21st)? Someplace in SE NY or Northern NJ would be good for everyone from the southern New Englanders to the MD/DE folks, maybe even as far as NE VA.

Please count me in. Not Saturday Jan 12th. FAAST seminar

Williamsburg! That way it can just be a $5 hamburger for me, rather than the typical $250 hamburger.

Let's tentavely pick the 19th, 11:30 at?

Skyacres?

Open for suggestions

There's a new restaurant at MGJ that is supposed to be excellent...

It is called culinary creations and supposedly they renovated the interior and it looks much better than the average airport diner. I haven't been there yet but friends have gone several times with rave reviews.

Booked a plane for the 19th so hopefully I can make whatever AP is selected!

Happy New Year to you all.

I don't usually visit this site. But, Captain Ron informed me that you folks might enjoy this place, so here it is...

Here is the Pirep on SWF. The restaurant is open again. My wife and I went there today. Sweet Marie's Cafe is run by a team of three ladies (Mom, Aunt, and Daughter). Hours are Mon-Sat 7 am-3 pm. They are located in the Richmor Aviation building. Food is very good, coffee is very fresh, and the price is very inviting.

Two predecessor restaurants were nice too, but they didn't survive. I really hope Sweet Marie's will turn that trend around. Since nearby Rick's Runway Cafe at MGJ went out of business, it is nice to have a pilot's mess hall back in the area. Two things; one is they only take cash (ATM is available), and it seems like it's their first rodeo; they are trying very hard, so be patient for awhile... It's just like flying, as they practice more, they will become as good as you are at flying your machine.

Happy Eating!

Additional PIREP for POU, since it is in the same area as SWF, MGJ, SKYACRES.

Just called Dutchess Aviation (845 463-6000). For at least the next couple weeks, maybe longer, 100LL at POU is 5.44 M-Th and 5.20 F-Sun..

The new restaurant just adjacent to the airport is called Fresco Chop and Ale House (845 204 9555). It is where the old Waranock Restaurant was located. It's menu varies from burger/ grilled chicken sandwiches with trimmings to a rather nice menu of Italian dishes. My grilled chicken and mushrooms sandwich with onion rings and hot bread was yummy and plentiful. Nice ambience. They are closed Monday but open 2-10pm. They said if you arrive a bit early, they will let you in anyway. Obviously, this would be a concern if this is a strict 12 noon lunch event.

There is a walkout gate near transient ramp near the restaurant, or Duchess aviation line service will drive you there and/or pick you up.

If you're expecting a crowd, they have more than enough space to accommodate.

Hey Ted tell them they need to be open on Sundays, they are missing a LOT of breakfast flyout business.

Is that the walk out gate near the Poughkipsie Flying Club's "club house"? If so isn't that gate a secuirty gate? At the club's innaugrial fly in they had to have an airport guy stationed there.

I don't know where the Poukeepsie flying clubhouse is located. But there is a security automatic opening gate for vehicles just east of the approach to runway 24 , about a hundred feet from the restaurant. About 50 feet east of that gate is a walk out gate, with a return security code, according to staff at Dutchess Aviation. I personally have not had an opportunity to use that walk out gate.

Great pireps and lots of new places to check out. Keep them coming and feel free to post if you have a favorite. We will come up with a location shortly...

Had a very nice dinner fly-in at KBAF (Barnes Municipal Airport
Westfield/Springfield, Massachusetts, USA)

I'm in for fly-in Lunch.
My home base is KISP

Hey Bob, greetings and Welcome to POA!

Reviews look great! I called them and they will be on vacation from the 19th through the 29th so.....

I spoke w/ Cindy @ Skyacres. No other groups are planned and they are open. Let's plan on 11:30-11:45 at Skyacres (44N)

Here is the Airnav link that will provide airport info. http://www.airnav.com/airport/44N

Skyacres is a neat little Country Airport nestled in the hills of Millbrook, NY. Food and service always good.

Looks like we're going to have 5 or so people (I guess no one else wants to come put and play :)). I have never been to 44N, so what should I know flying there? And local advice? Also, where do you park for the resturant?

I'll join in. Rich with a Grumman.

Looks like 2 more planes.. If the weather is good..

Clink on the link below and this will give you a nice overview of the airport. Depending on landing, the runway slopes down (or up) considerably. It's not your imagination!

Parking is on two tiers: Top by the fuel station or next level down. Anywhere you can find a spot should be good. Keep your head on a swivel as Skyacres can be very busy on a nice day. I would suggest flight following until you are on top on the airport.

Look for the RED "POA" logo sign and you will find our table :)

Update: The winds are for forecasted to be 25-30, gusts over 40 out of the south, southwest. I'll reevaluate in the morning but getting the hell beat of us to make a lunch meet just isn't fun!. Sunday is looking similar.....:(

:yeahthat:
40kt headwind to get there (great tailwind coming home though).
Groton's TAF says 18G27 for return time tomorrow, similar to today. We'll see what the morning brings.

Well folks, based on the updated forecast and current winds, I am bailing out. It's already 260 @ 28kts, gusting 32 pretty much direct crosswind. Been there, done that and ain't fun!

Makes sense.. The flyin was a great idea. If you could try again on another Saturday and hope for good weather that would be great..

I'm out. Not looking forward to an ass kicking just for lunch.

I showed up as did another Grumman. Enroute, it was a little bumpy below 2000 ft. but fairly smooth at 3000 ft. The winds at 44N were around 10 kts, not bad. See you all next time.

Glad the flight was pleasant. Yes, time to pick some dates and retry. What does the calendar look like for everyone?

Just about any Sunday works for me. Lets try not to pick a day with a 35kts+ gusts and 50kts of headwind. :)
