Any military aviators on here?

When I was there we'd all go to Tenn-Tom across from the mall. Don't think it's there anymore. Reuben's had good fried catfish too. All-You-Can eat, and we would too!

Yeah Tenn-Tom is not around, I've never heard of it. Reubens is still there. We used to eat there a good bit, not so much anymore.

Wasn't a lot of choices when I was there. Probably still isn't lol.

We ate at Tenn Tom, Old Hickory, Pasquales Pizza, some Mex place on east side of town, and Reubens mainly. Back in the 70s wasn't much more there.

Old hickory and Reuben's is still there...Mexican..la Fiesta Brava? Still there. We have a good bit here now, Logan's steak house, Longhorn Steakhouse, Cracker barrel, and a bunch of your normal fast food, and some good mom and pop restaurants. I could still use more but I've been here since 2005 and it has grown a good bit.
 
Just updating you guys since you've all been super helpful. I have narrowed my preference down to the Marine Corps. Testing, physicals, and fitness tests will be coming up quickly, and I'll let you know about my progress. Again, thanks for all of your help.

Old friend of mine just retired last year out of F-18Ds. Flying A-4s at Draken now.

I probably know him, especially if he was a Beaufort guy as that is where I did all of my flying tours. Missed flying the TA-4 by two classes in Meridian when they shut em down, always wanted to strap one of those bad boys on. Oh yes I am ready for retirement!
 
Hell, with the atrocious mx rates marine aviation are facing plus all the non-flying qweep all the branches continue to be served on AD, I'd be ready for retirement too. It's getting real up in the DoD, especially with the airline hiring.
 
I just heard from a guy here that the AF is having a hard time filling up UPT slots. Dang take me and make me reserve so I can just stay here and instruct. Id do that in a heart beat...Too bad Im too old...ugh!

I had a friend who was a T37 IP when I was at CAFB. He later got out of the USAF, worked as a controller, and then back to CAFB as a civilian IP.

Ah yes, never was there a scream heard round the world quite like when 242 moved out of Miramar for the "Evil Gloomy". Of course I did six WESTPACS, so I know it well myself. I was in 122,332 (till they cadre'd),533, and 224.

Did they change it? I think 224 went from Bengal to Tiger.

Well crap. I see now they were decommissioned 10 years ago. Pretty darn good mishap streak they had going too.

We rolled up the Moonlighter colors in early 07, and 224 is still the Bengals. It's rough out there in the fleet units right now, especially the hornets. Hell, all Marine Aviation is struggling these days.

I was probably 3-4 classes ahead of you. We might've bumped into each other at VT-9 though. I honestly don't remember my callsign back then, I'll have to go look at my boat patch. Whatever it was obviously didn't stick. The only Marines I knew were the ones in my class and a couple ahead of me.
 
There are only 2 types of aviators in the navy.. Pilots and self loading baggage.
 
Just a little update. Sorry for updating such an old thread, but just wanted to let you guys know what was going on.

I did narrow it down to the Marine Corps as my choice. I just recently finished my flight physical down in Pensacola, FL. I had a great time, and it looks like nothing has disqualified me (yet). Eyesight was the biggest thing, and I'm past that no problem. Will get the OFFICIAL stamp of approval in about a month and a half.

After that, it looks like officer candidate school would be in january. Then "The Basic School" (combat/leadership training for marine corps officers). Then flight school in Pensacola. It's been a fun process, and I appreciate you guys helping me get started on this journey with your guidance, suggestions, and networking.

Yeah, the eye stuff takes the longest. Eye topography, dialation and interocular pressure, etc. Future physicals will be less stringent.

Have you been officially accepted or are you waiting on a board?
 
I have not been officially accepted yet. The boards will meet again this Halloween, and they will review my application, test scores, etc., and then give me a yay or nay.

In the meantime I'm going to go do my personal fitness test again to make myself more competitive for that board review.

Cool. Nothing less than a 300 will do! :D I think 285 or better will stand out in the board's eyes. 297 on my final one...just could get the 3 miles done in 18 minutes.
 
Absolutely! I've gotta get my run times down again. I used to do 5k's in roughly 18 minutes, but that was in high school. I got fat in college, and am playing catch-up :p

Crunches are no problem. Pull-ups have improved like crazy too. I'm getting there though.

I'm supposed to find out this Thursday, but I've heard this has been an extremely competitive board so far. I've got a few buddies who've already been turned down.

I think one of my best hopes right now is being an Eagle Scout and already having a pilots license for this board.

If I'm not accepted, I've got some big time references I can add from my back pocket, increase my fitness score, and increase my aptitude test scores. The next board will be in the spring for, I believe, April OCS.

Ok. Well keep your fingers crossed. I was turned down on my first board in the Army. 5 years later, applied again and got picked up. Timing has a lot to do with it.

Well, wasn’t selected for this board. My fitness score wasn’t competitive enough with this board.

Time to hit the pull-up bar extra hard and prep for the spring boards!
 
Sorry to bring back such an old thread, but I thought I’d let everyone know that I was accepted to Marine Corps Officer candidate school starting this June.

I was accepted with an air contract which means after officer candidate school and the basic school (6 month rifleman and leadership training) I will be sent to Pensacola Florida to try my hand at flight school. Thanks for all of your support.
