This flight school bought out the one-man operation where I got my PPL at our local airfield. They have been around about 18-months.

Here is the email I got today:

July 9, 2008

Dear Customers and Students:

I regret to inform you that effective July 11, 2008, that Pan Pacific Aviation
will be ceasing its flight training operation.

The last year has been a busy one for all of us. Despite our many efforts and
tremendous marketing expense, we have not been able to cultivate a sustaining
demand for our services in this area. The financial strain caused by the low
demand for our service has further been aggravated by the rising costs of fuel
and other overhead, a diminished long-term outlook on demand for aircraft rental
and instruction, and an extreme exposure to risk and liability.

The unfortunate decision to close our school was made after weighing all
available options.

We will remain open during our regularly scheduled hours and by appointment
through the close of business on Friday.

PPA will review the account status of all customer accounts at the flight
school. Any persons being owed a refund for flight hours pre-purchased from Pan
Pacific Aviation will be refunded. PPA reserves the right to resolve any
accounts receivable at our discretion. Any flights dispatched between today and
Friday, are to be paid in full at completion, with no exception.

Students please contact your instructor for any possible solutions to the
disruption that this will cause to your flight training.

Best regards.

-Matt Barchi

I doubt it will. That's why I'm shooting for the non-professional pilot bound student.; professionals who wish to add a pilot's license and subsequent ratings to their tool box for business or personal use.

There are a lot of those potential customers out there but too many schools are shooting for volume over substance. It's the same kind of customer who ends up in Ron's hands through PIC.

At least they're giving notice and refunding money.

When one of the FBOs and Flight Schools at SSF closed, there was no notice - they just locked the doors and left folks hanging. Eventually the lender stepped in and released the planes in the community hangar, though the folks that had planes apart for MX were hosed for weeks.
