Hi guys,

I'm located in Sarasota FL and while I'm currently selling my plane I'm pre-planning for the annual should it not sell. The annual is due in April.

Anyone have any experience with any shops in or around Sarasota for an annual on a Piper Cherokee 180-C?

It's kinda a big deal for me since it's my first annual since purchasing the plane back in May 2015 so I want to make sure it's done right.

Thanks.

First annual since you bought it?:dunno:..

Let's hope it was in good shape when you bought it and there is NO hidden nightmares...:yikes:

I had a pretty thorough pre-buy done on it and I've done a LOT of flying on it to keep it up. Really haven't had to do anything on it except a few minor repairs, the biggest of which was a cylinder overhaul at pre-buy, which the previous owner paid for as a part of the purchase.

I'm really not expecting any surprises on it but yes, I share your concerns :)

Thanks Charlie, I've had work done there and it's always been good results. By the way, if anyone wants to PM me with suggestions or comments, please do so. I'm not looking to badmouth any local organizations or discuss good vs bad, just wanted some suggestions based on other local flyers.

Thanks.

OK, Am I completely off base here, or are annuals (every year) a requirement for flight?

@JOhnH: Last annual on this plane was April 2015, so yeah gotta legally do it if I wanna continue to fly (as N801BH already said)

I put 133 hours on the plane in about 6 months last year but I don't anticipate needing nearly that many this year. I go up a few times a week, no where far during the week since getting stuck means missing work which would be bad. I save longer trips for the weekend. Working on commercial time now, actually only have 10 hours to go for the 250 minimum, already have the PIC time, etc down.

I may go up to Georgia this weekend for the long XC, assuming this cold of mine stops bothering me..

I trained at CAMS in Clearwater @ KPIE, which began as a maintenance shop. I am not an owner so I have no personal experience with the maintenance side of it, but word-of-mouth seemed to be good. Thought I'd mention it.

Who did your prebuy?

I'd ask him.

Thanks guys, pre-buy was done at Propeller Head Aviation in KGIF, the guy who did it was thorough, but a bit more pricy then others out there (by quite a bit), but I wanted to make sure I was getting a good plane.

I actually had two pre-buy's done there. The first plane I rejected 'cause it had like 10K in repairs and the owner refused to believe that by only flying it once or twice a year it was in not in "peak condition". That plane is even still out there for sale, hmm..wonder why.

Second pre-buy I ended up with N8045W.

Ive had great luck at Bay Air at KSPG I did owner assisted this year it was a lot of fun.

You're selling a plane you bought 9 months ago?

Tom, yeah. I bought it for a mission, which I accomplished. I never planned on keeping it forever.

If I do buy another one it'll probably be a two seater so I can go fly on the weekends or to the coast when I want. My wife and son don't have enough of an interest for me to keep it around.

The only reason I bought a 4 seater instead of a 2 seater for training was that during the downtime between lessons, I was planning on taking my family up on trips, etc. Well, things changed, so now I'm stuck with a 4 seater that only I fly or maybe go with my son places.

The pro is that the plane is vastly upgraded from where it was when I got it, so anyone that actually DOES buy it will be getting a massive headstart on training, etc.

@tlrussell, thanks, I've been to KSPG for lunch MANY times and always wondered about those service centers I saw from across the runway :)
