Annual inspection due date

Just wanted to confirm with the members what A&P said.

My annual was signed 6/6/14 so it's out, but Ron said it's good until the end of the month. I'm still good to go with insurance and all legal shmegal.

Yep.... You are good till July 1st
 
they call it an annual inspection, but if done right it is a 13 month inspection.

Just completed mine a week of so ago. It ran out on May 31st and the new one was signed off on June 4th. So it is now good until June 30th. 2016, when I will do the inspection and have it signed off on July first.

Sounds like a plan.

I need to save a buck because I just bought our tickets to OSH and I splurged on the Aviator's club. It was more than the tickets.
 
That's what I did....flew till the 30th of May and it's in the shop now. So I'll be due July 1st next year. Every 12 years, annual is FREE,!!!!!!! Sorta......

Forget the members, what does the reg say?

14 CFR 91.409

(a) Except as provided in paragraph (c) of this section, no person may operate an aircraft unless, within the preceding 12 calendar months, it has had—

(1) An annual inspection in accordance with part 43...

Today is June 10th, 2015. Count back 12 preceding calendar months: May, April, March,...August, July, June. Yep, that takes you to June 2014. Was there an annual between June 1 2014 and now? When you see "calendar month" in the regs, that means you ignore the date and just go by month. And as others pointed out, if you don't mind going out of annual for a day, you can squeeze 13 months out of the deal.

till it's due in February.....try doing an annual inspection in an unheated hangar.:mad2::yikes:
 
The thirteenth month deal just makes sense.

I'll bet Ron would go along with it and do it for me. He likes me. I bought my plane from him for pete's sake! :lol:

You don't have to go out of annual for a day if it is important. If the annual expires at midnight on the 30th of June and you do the annual on the 1st of July, it never went out of annual..

Of course "doing" the annual is in the eye of the IA. If I do a lot of the inspections late in June and put the last screw into the cowl the first of July and sign it off with ten minutes worth of work in July, that is MY call as the IA.

Last of the month, as far as the insurance is concerned, even if you forgot, as long as it was in annual when you signed the policy application and made no misrepresentations, you will still have coverage.

Mine gradually migrated from Aug to April since I owned my plane but then this year I moved I forward to Feb and plan to leave it there.

Getting 13 months out of an annual is great. But doing the annual when the weather is crappy and I have less opportunity to fly anyway is more important to me.

If everything goes well, then it's not a big deal to do it during flying season but I'd hate to be on a June or July timeframe, need to pull a jug, and be down for a month when the weather is nice.

In nicer climates...not important.

I will say it again. I am constantly amazed by the number of people who don't understand the FAA's simple "calendar month" concept, especially since it applies to so many requirements.

I don't understand the allure of the 13th month?

Why not leave it in the same month every year?

Well...yeah...but there is really no reason not to if you live somewhere with good flying weather year-round. Here though....

As an aside---similar topic---how many hours will people who fly a lot go without doing an inspection?

Back when I was working, there were a numerous years that I flew my 182 over 200 hours. One year over 300.

Personally, I thought 100 hours was excessive but would have an annual done at about 150. I didn't feel comfortable going too far past that without looking closely at everything.

In 2007 I had an annual done in May, another in Sept and then one in March 08.

To many people it's irrelevant, they book their plane in when it's most convenient. Some people get 13-14 months on an annual cycle because the shop can't get them in.
