So Saturday had me chasing the sun and trying to avoid a thunderstorm at the same time. Sunday was just gray. I almost called the shoot off, but I'm using a STOL 182 for a photo plane and I decided to hop up and take a look for myself. Bottoms were at 3500, but broken, and I found I was on top at 6000. I called my photo pilot and the subject pilot and told them we were on!

Once we got on top, the green/gold scheme lit up in the sunshine. One of my best photo shoots in awhile... the sun was just perfect. Of course it opened up as soon as we were on top!

Beautiful shots, as usual! I do have one minor nit to pick though; the cowl flaps. They’re so honking big and wide open they’re a bit distracting… or am I weird in that my eye goes right to them? It’d just look a bit tidier to have them closed up a bit.

Yep, everyone will notice that! Pilot error.
 
Really nice photos. I have heard of 182RGs without comm antennas on top. Can you ask the owner where the comm antennas are located?
 
Is it normal for the exhaust pipe to come out of the bottom of the cowl like that? On the NA 182RG's, the exhaust comes out through the cowl flaps. Looks much cleaner.

The cowl flaps are not 182RG cowl flaps and the exhaust is not as produced by Cessna.

Yep, everyone will notice that! Pilot error.
Those 182RG guys just can’t seem to remember to close the cowl flaps when you’re shooting. Somehow they both ended up on magazine covers though.
 
I used to fly a TR182 back in the 80s. N6112S, man I loved flying that plane. Are there many around? I’m looking into getting back to my GA roots.
 
So what does turbo actually give you? I have a R182 with an O-540 j3c5d but I definitely can't do 173 kts in cruise

Standard performance at high density altitude.

i.e.
takeoff from Flagstaff on a hot day.
Cruise up to FL190 to catch tailwinds


Were you one of those that thinks a turbo is a go-fast thing as in cars?

This. In many areas of the West MEAs are 10,000'+. It's nice to be able to scoot up there with alacrity.

TBH I though it did both.
