Is there any round-the-pylons air racing going on other than at Reno?

I see there are a couple of point-to-point series in place, and Red Bull is bringing back its series, which is more like a set of time trials than it is racing, but I can't find any other racing. Anyone know of anything else?

Unfortunately there really isn't any. Many have been tried since Reno restarted the whole thing but none seem to catch on.

wasn't there a company that built experimentals that was sold to some sort of WWF (WWE) type company trying to start a league? IIRC the planes were canard planes?

Perhaps this is what you're thinking of?

Saw them demo at Osh. Really boring. It blast like a rocket (duh) then shuts off and coasts. Then blast again for a few seconds then coasts, yuk.

The race heats were supposed to last 15 minutes, each aircraft carried ~3 minutes of fuel. Would have been a whole lot of silent racing.

For me, the thing about racing that makes it interesting is the competition aspect, the wheel to wheel or wing to wing part, so whomever's dreaming this stuff up needs to make sure it plays out like a contest and not an exhibition. Stuff like the Red Bull series where it's one plane at a time isn't interesting to me.

I'd gladly go to an air race if it were within 500 miles or so, but I just can't justify airfare to Reno and back.

Spend the money to go to reno, you may not have many more chances. They are in very difficult financial times after 2011 and the crash. I'm going this year, I don't care what it costs, I may not have another chance.
