From the "You couldn't make this stuff up" department:
False identifications based on a terrorist no-fly list have for years prevented some federal air marshals from boarding flights they are assigned to protect, according to officials with the agency, which is finally taking steps to address the problem.

....

One air marshal said it has been "a major problem, where guys are denied boarding by the airline."

"In some cases, planes have departed without any coverage because the airline employees were adamant they would not fly," said the air marshal, who asked not to be named because the job requires anonymity. "I've seen guys actually being denied boarding."

Stop the planet. I want to get off.

No this is good news. This is the only what that something will get done. No one listens to regular people. It takes people that are the 'system' to get things taken care of.

They didn't do a thing when a U.S. Senator was hassled, although it was Ted Kennedy.

Some article said the list grows so fast at some point it'll be easier to list names that aren't on it.

You're very lucky you're a Migaldi. :D

I am sure it was because Kennedy is a Democrat and we all know they are un-American :D:D;);)

You didn't finish reading the article. Something WAS done. Now they're allowed to flash their credentials and bypass the no-fly list. They didn't dismantle the no-fly list, they just made themselves exempt.

Unbeweavable! (said in my best Elmer Fudd voice). So this has been going on for years. Wanna bet the new systems has glitches too and we'll hear about those.....in a few years.

Best,

Dave

So that the real terrorist knows who to takedown first? Great!

They've always known that because they knew to look for the guys in the navy blazers and ties* who go down the ramp before the flight.

* Their management insists they must obey the dress code, so they can't really be in the same "plain clothes" as regular flyers....and they do board separately.

Not always - some FAMs are absolutely undercover. I know because I was armed once while travelling (in my old life) and was introduced to them - one looked like a business traveller and one looked like a vacationer.

That went away quite a few years ago, at least the dress code part.
