Air gun from the early nineteenth century

Re: Nice Rifle

Wow that is amazing! Thanks for posting it Tom. The one thing the clip did not address was how they got the air tank in the butt pressurized.

Early in the clip he mentions it takes about 1500 strokes of a bicycle-type pump to charge the gun. Good thing you could fire 40 times before having to recharge.

That first shot at 800 PSI might do some real damage, but I wonder about the last?

It falls on the indian's foot just before he scalps you.

In 1805 that would be the equivalent of bringing a machine gun to a gun fight while seriously outnumbered. They'll get you eventually however you only have to pop off 4 or 5 rounds real quick as a demonstration then ask who wants to be the 20 to die before they get you. In a group of 500 non suicidal people when you have 20 rounds left, not a one of those 500 people are going to step in front of your barrel and say shoot me. Mob control at it's best.

It's a very interesting gun though.

Yeah I heard that but I thought he was just giving us a modern day bench mark against which to measure.

Man those pumps between 1400 and 1500 have to be a real bear.
