Hey, gang. Most of you know I'm an experimental aircraft dealer for an ADSB-Out solution to the 2020 problem. However, I've come up on a problem I need some help with.

The product I have has an ADSB-In option that is connected to the ADSB-Out box that I provide. Unfortunately the fine folks (??) that manufacture this box delete the BNC RF connector on the chassis that connects OUT to IN. That is, until you buy the ADSB-in box and assembly parts from them.

A lot of my customers want to PREWIRE the ADSB-Out box with this RF connector because when they save up enough to buy the IN box, they won't have to completely rewire the tray for ADSB-In (and remove the tray to do it). What a pain in the tush.

So I asked my fine folks (??) at the company if they would sell me a few of the RF connectors so that I could let my customers prewire the chassis. No. Apparently, they will not sell just the connector, you have to buy the whole installation cable THAT COMES WITH THE ADSB-IN box, which gives you a whole bunch of duplicate parts you don't need.

I asked my fine folks (??) if they would simply tell me the manufacturer (NOT the vendor, I've got a DOZEN connector vendors) and the answer was no. Apparently they won't even give you the manufacturer.

This is my 50th year in this avionics business and I've never yet met a company that wouldn't work with their vendors to give the customer what they wanted.

So, folks, here are a couple of pictures. If anybody KNOWS who the manufacturer of these BNC connectors are, please let me know. PLEASE don't tell me they "look like Amphenol" or "look like RGA" because I've spent a HELL of a lot of time on a HELL of a lot of catalogs looking for them.

Any information gratefully accepted.

I am guessing Amphenol would make a TNC connector like this you could use.... can you send it to them and see what they say?

Any reason to stay one of their dealers, if they act like that?
 
P.S. Would “Looks like whatever was on sale that afternoon at the market in Shenzhen...” work for ya? LOL.

I was saying call the company that makes connectors and see if they can point you in the right direction.... :)

But that's what Jim's looking for....the name of the manufacturer or the actual part number/identifier.

gadzooks, I feel like I'm back in my beginning CS class where the students don't read the directions...

I am sorry you feel that way but if I were Jim... I would want to ask someone who works with connectors day in and day out... I am sure someone at their company would say “oh here’s what you want”. I feel like I am trying to teach common sense here that you cannot learn in a classroom.. seek the person with the most experience on the subject you need help with... in this case, it would probably be some sales guy or engineer at Amphenol or whatever company... just trying to help!

Exactly! And that person happens to be... Jim. I guess that you're not aware that when the first airplane had a radio installed, it had an antenna that Jim designed. :D

Point is that if Jim doesn't recognize it, he's probably already run it past people he's knows at Amp, TE and Hirose. And at this point he's casting a wide net hoping that someone may have run across it and have some useful information.

I wouldn’t call PoA a “wide net”. LOL. I hope he’s posted somewhere that actually is full of RF engineers. ;)

Have you called some friends that work at avionics shops to get their input? If not, I would start there. Some of those guys are pretty street smart when it comes to stuff manufactures won't say/do. They have a way of maybe things work.
 
Is the TNC one of these? blind tnc.png I think TED has them, as well as the BNC version.

The very FIRST thing I did is call my contact(s) at Amphenol and send them the same pictures I posted here. No joy. I've got no contacts at TE or Hirose, but I certainly pored over their website(s).

This is kind of a last ditch effort to find the mfgr.
