additional ptt switch

I just got a pair of used DC's with an additional PTT switch. What would one use this for if I already have a perfectly good mic button in the airplane? Wouldn't I then have to push two switches to talk (it and the airplane mic?)

Could be useful for a CFI flying from the right seat of an a/c with PTT only installed on the left side.
 
But it wouldn't override the main one right? Also would you be able to talk to pax without pressing it? How does a radio not have a PTT? Would everything you say be broadcast over that frequency?

If the airplane had the old hand mic, the PTT was on the handmic. Some planes were never fitted with yoke PTTs.
 
If you haven't bombed around the pattern in a C-150 using just the overhead speaker and a hand-mic...

... you missed out on a really annoying experience. :)

Did that for first ten hours...35 yrs ago!
 
My plane does not have a PTT on the yoke. The previous owner wired one in and velcroed it to the pilot side only. I had to buy one of those for the passenger side (for my CFI).
 
So is there a market for this? I'd love to sell it for the price of foam ear pads (which stupidly did not come with the set :/

Why would you want foam earpads? And yes, you should be able to get a little $ for it.

Because my pax haven't been spoiled by gel yet :)

They're undesirable enough that you could probably get some for free. Actually I think I might have a pair laying around somewhere...but I might have thrown them away already. I'll let you know if I find them.
