On Saturday, September 20th, 2014, AviatMall will be hosting a fly-in BBQ at the Airport on Ocracoke Island sixteen miles of pristine wild beaches, and a charming village with lodging, restaurants, shops, recreational activities, and nightlife. AviatMall will greet you at the airport any time after 11:00 a.m. to get you settled and direct you to the BBQ lunch at 12:00.
The local firefighter group will be barbecuing hamburgers and hot dogs on the Airport starting at noon. We have left the rest of the day open for people to head off and explore the Island, or just put their feet up and enjoy the day at the beach which is a short walk from the Airport. The BBQ lunch is a donation benefiting the local firefighter group and the price will be $20/person. You are encouraged to bring with you Adult Beverage of choice to contribute to the Airport BBQ Beverage stash.
For those wishing to make a weekend of it, there are several Hotel and Motels on the Island - Anchorage Inn & Marina, Blackbeard's Lodge and many others.
Ocracoke Island can be iffy weather - so there will be a rain date on Sunday, September 21st or the following weekend in the event of a hurricane.
Come enjoy one of the best aviation destinations on the east coast, the village of Ocracoke is located around a small sheltered harbor called Silver Lake. It is one of the most remote islands in the Outer Banks, as it can only be reached by one of three public ferries (two of which are toll ferries), private boat, or private plane. The village is located at the widest point of the island, protected from the Atlantic Ocean by sand dunes and a salt marsh.
