Tom and I had the pleasure of having Tim Winters and his friend Holly fly into the farm today. What a beautiful 182! I just love those straight-tail Cessnas. And it's the cleanest airplane that I have ever seen! I found only one bug on it and had planned to get a picture of the bug, but got distracted by the good conversation. :)

It sounds like Holly is really enjoying flying around with people and hopefully she will find a way to start taking lessons someday.

BTW, we gave Tim a "10" on his landing. :D

Nice straight-tail Cessnas look so right.

Some look right, like Tim's- just pretty.

Others look right, like Eamon's- they show up full of beer.

Wow, that's a super-sharp 182! Thanks for sharing the pics.

Boy, I don't know about that!

I was a little high and carried about 5kts too much coming across the fence due to flying the abbreviated "miss the cell towers" pattern. The resulting float was embarrassing.
:hairraise:

Okay, the touchdown might have been smooth but it was far too far down the runway. I typically like to be far closer to the numbers...ahhhhh...the first set of numbers that is!

:goofy:

This is the first time I met Tom and Diana and they indeed are the greatest! I only wish we would have had more time to visit. We were only on the ground for 45 minutes to an hour before we got chased back east (and home) by some storms coming our way out of Kansas.

And, lastly, just because I'm in a good mood this evening, I won't even mention my close encounter with a jerk Crop Duster at LLU on the way over.

Diana and Tom made me forget all about it.

And, remember, "never fly the "A" model of anything"

You floated? We didn't even notice. :)

Hate to bring it up again, but we're still trying to figure out what direction he was landing. Tom or I will bring it up next time we're out there. We've never seen our regular guys do anything like that before.

Oh, I'm much more calm about it now than I was Saturday when it happened.;)

Short story: The winds were pretty much 90* to the runway so I landed 21. Once on the runway I saw it was uphill going south so I announced "back taxi-ing 03" He landed over the top of me on 03 as I was nearing the south end of of the runway.

I placed a phone call first thing this morning to the city and they just called me back. They told me "the cowboys are from Aurora" and that they just returned from having a talk with them about other transgressions that they've received complaints about.

Hmmmmmm. Interesting. Wonder what the other transgressions were. Guess I need to ask around. Funny that they called them "cowboys".

BTW, in that picture of the three of us you and Holly looked good. I'll send it to you if you promise not to post it. ;)

Not trying to excuse the idiot's actions, as there's no excuse for him to have landed over the top of you - he should have seen you were still on the runway - but, at least around here, the cropdusters don't have radios. They've taken some pains to let the rest of us know that they don't, and they'll be staying out of our way.

Tim, I really like your airplane, it makes mine look kinda bad. However mine has to work in a pretty rough environment. I love those straight tailed 182s.

Thanks, Bob...they are all a work in progress.

OK, Tim and Tom said I don't look bad in this one, so here 'tis. I think this is a great picture of Tim smiling. And you can see how clean his airplane is!

Okay, talking about straight-tail Cessnas, I just had to post a picture of this beauty - which can be yours if the $50 raffle ticket you purchase from the 1940 Air Terminal Museum is the lucky one drawn next July (or after all 2500 tickets have been sold, whichever comes first). 713-454-1940 and operators are standing by...

That's a pretty good lookin' bird! Nice paint job and it might be the original design.

They blew it on the wheel pants though. Those are early '70s vintage...I think that's right. They're definately not late '50s.

Also, that bird's a 172, or possibly a 175. The dual exhaust pipes indicate an O-300.

Correct, it is a 172, a 1957, which is being raffled by the museum. I did not mean to insinuate that it was a 182... after re-reading the post I can see where I did not specify. Sorry for the confusion. However, it still is a straight-tail Cessna.

I had a '57 172. Bought it and learned how to fly in it. It is a fun plane to fly and just a great all around plane.

Very nice David... I believe you have to make something like 5 posts before you can upload pictures.
