2020 suggestions from no WAAS GPS

Here's what the panel looks like at present. I think the simplest and easiest route to compliance is to swap the KT-76A for GTX 335. A downside that I can see is that it requires a cable to run for the WAAS antenna. Still, I can probably install everything myself and get someone to sign it off. Last I checked, it was $250 and no multi-month wait -- provided that I don't have to disconnect the static from the encoder, which I don't need to do if GTX 335 is compatible with my encoder.

However, I'm stopping one last time to check if the UAT land offers any interesting options. Is there something out there that can replace the Apollo? I understand that I would need to add 2 antennas: UAT and WAAS GPS, but then I am getting rid of the Apollo.

{Update: Went with GTX-335. Yes, it's a separate GPS antenna. The transponder works perfectly, the FAA report says. But it seems to consume way more power than KT-76A did.}

See the GDL 82 thread. Maybe the cheapest thing available now.
 
For the price of the Trig TT31 and the TN70 GPS receiver you spend about $1k more than GTX335
 
Yah, I took the trig suggestion away. Wouldn't make sense, unless replacing the Apollo with something more "less current."

The all in one ones are probably better options.
 
What about Sandia STX 360? I see it advertised at fly-ins. It also replaces a transponder, and is generally equivalent to GTX 345 (minus Class A etc.), while priced less, although still above GTX 335.

So, I'm curious if anyone installed it (meaning, if it actually exists, in view of the delivery delays that Sandia suffered with SAI 340). Also, if there's a catch, like requiring an altitude encoder with RS-232.

{Update: Vaporware, and requires an external GPS, might as well use a Trig TT31 at that point...}

I don't think it's approved or in production yet. I couldn't even find anything that suggests it has an internal GPS receiver for positioning source.
 
All in one units, basically GTX3X5 series or Appereo Stratus, replaces the transponder.

Add-on UAT, Free Flight Ranger, Garmin GDLs ,and a few that aren't approved yet.
 
from what i understand, only the promo kit 335 is available for sale without install. after the promo, it will go back to garmins standard policy of only selling through dealers with install.
 
Get the GTX345 and enjoy having the uplink to your tablet too with full ADS-B IN coverage. I think the 335 is OUT only, which means you have to have another solution to get full ASD-B goodness and have paid almost as much as the guys who have it all in one

The 345 is more expensive that you imagine. Even with the installation overhead it's still 2x difference. Antenna alone is $700. And remember that once you have a compliant OUT, Stratux is all you need. In any case, it's a good thing that IN can be postponed. People keep bringing this up, and yes obviously paying in a lump sum is ultimately cheaper for many things. Everyone knows that you can buy a 2020-compliant, IFR-equipped airplane for cheaper than it takes to upgrade.

I agree with this, the context included the 335 as a solution which is a false option imo and only solves the here and not problem

Maybe I missed something but both GTX335 w/internal GPS and GTX345 w/internal GPS use the same antennas.

The GTX-335 promo includes the antenna, but the same antenna is not part of the GTX-345 package.
 
I second a Garmin gdl82.

Do the gtx345 if your transponder is old and questionable.
