And the first one was my home base! Thankfully I had already finished flying for the day, cause this king air coming in gear up closed the airport for the night and sent a lot of the locals elsewhere. Story I got (from very reliable sources) was that he had some kind of electrical failure and was coming in NORDO. We guess that he got distracted with the problems and didn't run a gumps check, though that's not known for sure.

Second one was a Cherokee landing on a fairly busy street. Did a pretty nice job of getting down safely really. I'd say he's a better pilot than the first one. Only exception might be if it turns out he ended up there because of fuel starvation.

Couple better pics of the King Air

Must have been one cool headed pilot,to land on the street ,with all those power lines .

“He (the pilot) got fortunate there was a red light on Cuyamaca. There was no cross traffic other than one idiot turning left in front of him – and that was me.”

So who was at fault, the pilot or the pickup driver?

I've seen some pics of the KA in the hangar after they towed it in. I doubt it's a write-off, but it's not gonna be cheap either. A friend who witnessed the landing said that he came down pretty hard, as if he thought the gear was there. They had line guys walking the runway picking up bits and pieces of prop and plane for nearly the full length.

I guess I was wrong in that last post. When I showed up to the airport yesterday this is what I found in the parking lot.

Cherokee was 400 yards from the numbers on 9L at Gillespie when he landed. ( I am making a small assumption about touchdown point) Looking at google earth, he almost made it.
