Hey everyone, I’m considering applying for my FAA Class 1 Medical and wanted to see if anyone has experience with a similar situation.

When I was 18 (five years ago), I experienced a marijuana-induced psychosis, voluntarily sought treatment, fully recovered, and have had no issues since. I’ve never used any substances again, have had no recurring symptoms, no need for ongoing treatment, no medications, and no family history of mental illness.

I know the FAA is strict when it comes to any history of psychosis, even if drug-induced, so I’m wondering:

  • Has anyone dealt with a similar case and been approved?
  • What kind of documentation would I need if I decide to apply?
  • Is approval even realistic in my case?

I seem to recall a thread or two here on the topic. The path is steep.

ETA: what’s in the record is important and really shouldn’t be discussed here. Finding a HIMS AME who’s worked these types of cases is important. You need someone who knows what’s needed and who’s also willing to tell you there’s not enough info in your records to have a realistic chance.
