    8 / 2 (2 + 2) =

It's 1 using the SAE/inch-foot system and 16 using Metric. Which is why the early lunar lander smashed into the moon at 1046MPS when it was supposed to be coming down at 0.313FPS. Freakin' Metric bastages. edit: I think it's supposed to be "maths be hard". Meh, I could be wrong.

Compression 75/80 with leaking sound out of exhaust pipe.

Maybe do the rope trick? Cheap, fast, easy. May do nothing, may change it significantly. Takes 15 min to do. Just don't go hog wild with the prop slamming.

Engine won't start after oil change

Glad it got solved, and was pretty easy. I still don't know if it starts on both or left, or if there was a change to the start procedure. As for EFI, I think what's going to eventually come along is a dual fuel setup. There will be a mech fuel inj just as their is now, with the fuel spider...

How can we "encourage" AOPA to do better?

I'm not defending any kind of landing fee. As a small airport manager/owner/line boy/investor/administrator/groundskeeper/pilot I have no interest in charging a landing fee for my location. There are some complexities in the finances of small GA airports. There are various classes based on size...

What do you believe is flying over New Jersey?

My chart shows a east coast low control area zipper line, we got the magenta ADIZ 12 miles plus some extra around NJ, we got Warning area10X out the kazoo, we got comm seaborne traffic going in and out of 5 major ports there, we got radar, we got navy, and air force, and the CG. You mean, with...

How can we "encourage" AOPA to do better?

All I've seen from AOPA since the late 80s has been all carrot and no stick. The loss of airspace to small GA has been both dramatic and relentless. More R blocks, more MOAs, restrictions on leaving the country by air or get fined, and now public identification of owner/operator of small GA...

How can we "encourage" AOPA to do better?

Take their money away. I can't find their financial docs anywhere except the wacky Amazon Web Service link and I'm not going to fart around with the decoder ring to open the 990 filing. I haven't paid AOPA for decades, but a lot of people have. They have $100M in the bank. A $100M org has no...

Weird ways to get fired at work

You guys are crapping up my 'getting fired' thread. How about back on track if anyone has gotten fired in new and exciting ways.

    Morality

I'll pass. I lived with a catholic Mexican girl for long enough to get a good sense of the deal. Consider me one of the great unwashed.

Seems to me a nude beach IS a kids playground. Volleyball anyone? So, I have an aviation nude beach story that is just bad enough to share. For a short time, back a few centuries I got to tow ad banners in San Diego. During summer we would take off from SEE and fly down the valley to the coast...

    Morality

Well, I didn't quote bible verse because I'm far from an expert. However, out there in the real world, this is how the plan goes. Sinner asks forgiveness, and some negotiation goes on, then penance and absolution. I think I have that right? I would say that every penitent soul in the alter of...

Engine won't start after oil change

Are you starting on the LEFT mag only or both? The left is a retard mag, and is used for starting. What is your mag check drop off RPM on both? Has it changed at all since the oil service? Might also have the timing checked on both mags, and do find out if the retard mag impulse coupling snaps...

    Morality

Well, I see where this one is heading, so I'll go ahead and push it along. Both of the major faiths of the world are REAL big on proselytization. And, it's been my experience, being around both of those faiths quite a lot that giving 'no' for an answer just makes them more fanatical. There might...

Do jet aircraft burn as much fuel taxiing as they do up at cruise?

F-104 idles at 78% of full mil power. The J-79 turbojet has about 20 compression stages(no fan) but I think it does bypass after mach 1.2? It is not a fuel friendly bird, which is why it carries tip tanks. I don't know the flow numbers anymore, but 'a lot' basically covers it. My uncle flew the...

    Morality

I don't want to point the finger, but yeah - there's a couple of religions that are not exactly covering themselves in moral righteousness these days. And throughout history as well.

    Power stations and charging batteries

Thank you, I should have looked it up. I'm used to getting the batt with the box of acid, and this is a sealed. My mistake.

    Morality

The most difficult(not complex) class I would teach is undergrad ethics. Required in most all business majors, and in some pre-law, pre-med majors. We're not allowed to stray into morality, but we can thematically reference moral behaviors as a balance point, or underpinning of ethical business...

    Power stations and charging batteries

Get the proper solar charger with the correct charge voltage for a SEALED lead acid batt. Due to newer tech batteries, getting the right solar charge voltage has become a challenge. Don't confuse and set up for flooded lead acid. edited to correct battery chemisty.

Missed it by that much. I was outbid

Best guess is there were 7 or 8 pairs made. One pair are called the 'Arabian' slippers as they had a curled up toe. These were not used in the film. The other 7/6 pair have had a circuitous life, being sold and re-sold and in some cases stolen along the way. 5 pair, including the Arabian set...

Missed it by that much. I was outbid

They actually were stolen a while back. The thief probably increased the value of them. The fence is going on trial after the shoes were recovered. The guy who stole them was so smart he thought they really had rubies on them. What a doof.
