Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

I made sure to land at an airport at least 51 nmi away, because, by my calculations, an airport that was EXACTLY 50 nmi away was, in reality, about 10 feet short because the "straight line distance" would, technically, be through the earth's crust and not at a safe flight altitude.

Forward vs Aft CG and Cruise Speed/Efficiency

In WW2, the USAAF determined that a painted B-17 was slightly faster than an unpainted one and burned slightly less fuel - even though it was a couple hundred pounds heavier with paint - because it had smoother airflow due to a lower drag co-efficient.

Forward vs Aft CG and Cruise Speed/Efficiency

My experience is that both handling and airspeed are best as one gets closer to the aft edge of the CG envelope. But, inexplicably, even with a 10 mph tail wind it doesn't make the Cub fly 10 mph faster.

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

What did the A-4 guy* say about adding simplicity? It's a door AND a stall warning flapper! *Edit: Ed Heinemann.

Train in a J3C-65 with full fuel, a picnic lunch, and a 200-ish pound CFI and you will experience flying near, if not at, max gross weight.

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

"When empty weight C. G. falls within range given, computation of critical fore and aft C. G. positions is unnecessary. Range is not valid for non-standard arrangements." I ran the numbers anyway . . . true, unless I weighed something like 60 pounds and / or my passenger weighed 300. Let's see...

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

What I was trying to say is that a pilot needs to be aware of the normal performance of her / his aircraft. Sure, I weigh a lot less than my CFI, and could climb twice as fast flying solo as I could with him on board. But those are both "normal" rates of climb at different gross weights. Density...

How much did poor training contribute to this accident?

At the risk of being a noob sticking her nose where it may not belong. No accident anywhere has ever been caused by an aircraft having a NORMALLY LOW HORSEPOWER TO WEIGHT RATIO. The airplane you are flying is the airplane you flying . . . 65/1170 is 0.55 HP/lb. No matter how you slice it, you...

    Annual Inspection Paperwork

So, I do not want to be presumptive, or to wade into waters over my head, but my CFI told me that the "legal" requirement (in 2024, for single engine general aviation aircraft that are not rented or used commercially) is that a "record" be kept that an IA signed the aircraft off as being...
