    KFC-200 vs Stec 50

Looking at two very similar aircraft and trying to decide which one to make an offer on. One difference is the autopilot. Aircraft #1 has a KFC-200 with KI 256 and KCS 55A. Aircraft #2 has a Stec 50 with an Stec ST-901. How do the two autopilots compare? I have not flown behind either...

    Scammer on Facebook

So I responded to an ad on face book for a Mooney M20K. Pics looked good, price was a bit lower than market, not crazy low, but enough to make my spidey-sense start to tingle. Anyway, attached is the discussion in had with the seller (scammer). I got a good laugh at least.

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

I got an insurance quote this morning ont he TR182: Hull Value $150k $1MM liability/ $100k limit per passenger $10k Med Pay per passenger $4,400 This is with my current ratings and total hours (none of which is in type and also 0 retractable). The IFR rating would only lower the premium by 5%.

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

A local flight school has a Comanche 260B. I am going to get some hours in it to see how it does up here.

A 210 is more airplane than I need, but a TR182 would be a contender...

Budget is $150k, so not going to be burning kerosene any time soon.

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

Debs are on the short list for sure. Would want an IO-520 at a minimum, better would be an IO-550. I think I want either a big bore 6 cyl or a turbo 360cuin for my mission.

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

The M20K 231 is definitely on the short list. The turbo should handle high DA departures well, plus should see good climb to altitude. Plus with the 360 engine they are very efficient. I'd almost never fly with four people, so the lower useful shouldn't be too much of a factor.

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

Mission #1: Weekly trips between Delta CO (KAJZ) and Steamboat Springs, CO (KSBS), Wx permitting, with one person and light baggage. This is the main mission for the aircraft. I'm currently doing this in a GlaStar with an O-360. It does this quite well , TAS is consistently 128kts with 8.5...

Am I crazy for considering a V-Tail Bo?

Starting to look for a high performance complex. I have always thought the V-tails were sexy airplanes. Given the ruddervator situation, am I a fool for even considering buying one? Tony

    421 down at SBS

It's odd to me that they diverted to Steamboat and not HDN. Hayden has a 10,000' runway and FAR less terrain to deal with.

    421 down at SBS

Really sobering to me as I'm flying to SBS tomorrow. Luckily no one on he ground was killed, but I'm sure there are no survivors on board. https://www.steamboatpilot.com/news/plane-crashes-into-mobile-home-park-in-steamboat-springs/

This is my typical route. Keeps me out of the high terrain. I generally fly 11,500/10,500, but can go as low as 9500 for most of the route.

Hello everyone, So kinda new member here. I was actually a member back about 10+ years ago. Life took me away from aviation for about 10 years, but now I'm finally getting back into it, and wanted to get connected to the community once again. A little about me: I recently bought my first...

FAA adds another hoop for medicals

I have a problem with this also. It seems like the FAA is going to conduct a study to find at which BMI sleep apnea is a likely problem. But instead of funding the study themselves, they are going to have pilots fund the study by requiring the screening at their expense.
