    New PPL

I second this. Sheppard air for the ground and I found the Pilot Edge courses exceptional. Do NOT get the Sporty’s videos. The guy on screen is proof of life after death. Zzzzzz.

    Pilotworkshops question

YES. I started with one course and have now purchased and completed almost all of their IFR training courses and materials. I fly IFR a lot and find myself using their training materials on a regular basis to refresh memory gaps etc. Well written and clear with excellent materials and interface.

What plane would you buy in my situation?

Having owned a Cherokee 235 (the precursor to the Dakota) I can attest what excellent planes they are. The Dakota is a longer 235 with the tapered wing. Some people don’t like the magneto setup in the Dakotas. However, with the Piper spar issues resulting in AD and SB on a regular basis, I’d be...

Cheapest way to build retract time

Yes, they are - maybe I should have said "modern Mooneys J's and Up" instead of mid bodied

Cheapest way to build retract time

Comparing to short bodies only. Wingspan of my O3 is 36 ft 1 inch. Short bodies are 35

Cheapest way to build retract time

Long body Mooneys have a 1ft longer wingspan that the short bodies. He’s wrong.

    Indy air sales

I bought my Ovation 3 from them in May. I did not have their shop in Anderson do the pre buy ( as they had done the last few annuals) but I did have them fix a couple of minor squawks. Nothing but a positive experience at IndyAir. At the end of the day, you, as the buyer are responsible for...

    Mid-air, KMEV Minden-Tahoe

Adsb is such an easy add even to a plane with basic avionics. Needs to be mandatory. Agree that that the FAA needs to stop it being used for reasons other than air safety.

    Mid-air, KMEV Minden-Tahoe

I opined about something similar with the float plane collision in Florida some time back (float plane NORDO). This assumes that Blancolirio is correct and the Swift pilot turned off his ADSB. Just because you CAN doesn’t mean you SHOULD. The Swift pilot’s ridiculous paranoia killed him and...

Insurance costs for low time pilot

When I got my Mooney Ovation I had zero retract (about 500 hours with an IR, High Performance tho). I got insured initially through Avemco - 7,500/yr BUT I could call them when I reached 50 hours and they would reprice. I called them at 50 hours (which took 60 days) and they dropped the policy...

What is up with fractional jet ownership companies?

I am quite familiar with Volato. They had a flawed business model. They put a lot of $$ on deposits hoping to expand their Hondjet fractional model to supermids and had deposits on a number of G280’s. They took delivery of one but had trouble selling the fractional. Ran out of cash.

using Foreflight in a Garmin plane?

Yes, I've been uploading the flight data from the SD card from every flight I take to Flysto. Sometimes Garmin Pilot has the files with Air Data and Engine Data and uploads it to Garmin site, sometimes it doesn't. I assume this is when my iPad loses BT with the G3X touch but keeps connected to...

using Foreflight in a Garmin plane?

That’s a good point. I could run GP on my phone and FF on the iPad mini. I also have a full size ipad but it’s just a bit too large to be convenient.

using Foreflight in a Garmin plane?

Lucius, I know I’m responding to an old thread - your post is exactly the dilemma I’m facing! I think the solution is to run FF and GP at the same time, preferably on the same ipad or on two different ones. I love GP because of the data that it gets from my connected, all glass garmin panel...

FltPlan.com - Help me understand this.

Well, as a Garmin Pilot user, I wish the flight planning piece of GP was more integrated rather than spread across two apps (GP and FltPlan). Foreflight’s is more integrated and they have a really useful desktop interface for flight planning. I’m just wondering why Garmin hasn’t integrated more...

FltPlan.com - Help me understand this.

It’s 2024. Why does Garmin’s flight plan software feel like is 2004? Seriously, this thing is terrible and doesn’t really provide any good service to Garmin Pilot (which I use), Foreflight’s flight planning module is infinitely superior. Thoughts? Is there some awesome feature in FltPlan.com...

Best plane for first time plane owner?

All good choices. I would suggest adding a Cherokee 235 into the mix. Faster than a 172, can lift its own weight. Relatively comfortable, constant speed prop, fixed gear cruise around 135+ KTAS good service ceiling. Excellent platform.

    Flying into HHR

No, actually, this was my first time back at HHR since I took my PPL check ride from there in 1986.

    Flying into HHR

I was wondering if it had more to do with IAF and the traffic routing given that HHR is a stones throw from LAX. Although now I see they are basically identical. Yup, should've just asked!

    Flying into HHR

Flew into HHR on Sunday. got the LOC 25 approach - is there a reason I got that rather than the RNAV 25? I'm hopeful local LA area pilots can let me know their experiences. Thanks!
