Spend my money - which autopilot?

If you're interested in the AeroCruze, I just checked on AeroPerformance/Spruce Tuesday and they have availability of all 3 controllers - stack, 2 1/2 and 3 1/8.

I can check tomorrow, I believe we have a SkyBeacon we removed for an upgrade in the shop.

FCC General Radio Operators Liscence for a shop

I can't point to a regulation, and our RSQM was written and approved well before I joined the shop, but we have no requirement for GROL's. I have my A&P and am designated by our roster to do certs, and if any transponders fail, we either send them off to a shop that repairs them, or find a...

the "not worthy of it's own thread" thread

Depending on other desired options, IFD440 would be slide in replacements for your GNS430W-no wiring work required. They run ~$14k each.

    Hangar Monthly Rent

T's are $300 and the erect-a-tube boxes are $350 at XSA. Hopefully won't go up too much when they build the new tubes next year.

    Rudder usage while retracting gear

Nose wheel steering is typically disconnected when the strut is fully extended, that's the mechanism that allows it to remain centered while flying with it extended. Moving your rudder shouldn't affect your nose wheel in transit, nor in the well.

    Stratus transponder

I like an ACK 30.9 with Mode S transponders in particular, and with any transponder that accepts RS232, like your Stratus. Power, ground and 1 wire to the transponder, connect the static line and it's ready for testing. And there is another RS232 out for a navigator if desired. Bonus is you...

Buying my first airplane and have couple of concerns

Hobbs and tach time typically don't get reset after engine work. You have to look at the time installed vs. current to get SMOH.

    Is adding vor worth it?

That's correct, if the nav input isn't on a RS-232/ARINC429, it has to go through the ACU. The TX56 outputs the "old school" left/right/up/down on parallel lines.

    Converting Certified to Experimental

You mention a Navy PCS to Virginia in the near future. Where about? I work in a shop in Tappahannock (XSA) and we are willing to work with owners on assist maintenance. I'm happy to help a fellow Squid stay safely in the air. Reach out when you get to this coast.

    How should I do schooling?

I stand corrected, thanks for the information. That is a good change to the program, and the caveats to it actually make some sense.

    How should I do schooling?

You will need to have your PPC before using GI Bill benefits, but absolutely use it to get your ratings and a degree.

    Autopilot Problem

Aerocruze 100 has pitot-static inputs on the back of the controller, not a separate transducer.

Aspen 1000 Pro or Dual G5s

Aspen can currently support GFC600, and they are working toward GFC500, if Garmin will ever cooperate with anybody else. Trio and Aspen E5 or Promax already integrate pretty seemless. I installed Apsen/IFD440/Trio in a C182.

    530 repair

Avidyne is a slide in for the 530W. There are a couple changes to go from non WAAS to a 540/550- or even 530 to 530W. And the IFDs will accept traffic from ADS-B sources, such as your 345. If those are the only considerations.

Crazedpilot.com sells an inexpensive ANR, that I'm told has good comfort and protection. Less than $200.

Aspen and EA100… The good, bad, and ugly?

You could, but it would be a bit of a SWAG. Install manual calls for leveling to set tilt. If you have access to a set of jacks and the time, leveling is best. My last few have been major installs, and have had reweighs done, so they were level anyway.

Aspen and EA100… The good, bad, and ugly?

Christopher, First thing would be to ensure the panel tilt is set properly. You'll have to get the plane jacked and leveled to a level flight attitude, and set the ball pitch and roll to indicate straight and level. If that is already set properly, there is a tech note that can be used to...
