Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

The Cirrus SR has mild stall characteristics, but I would say if you get slow on it and drop a wing, many have said it spins violently, which is why the only spin recovery option per the POH is to pull CAPS. In the Cirrus forums though, there's a post from 2006 of a guy that spun an SR2x out of...

Fatal Crash at First Flight, 9/28

I just put in the better numbers by default if you put in 200+ adults it’ll make it worse with full tanks. Putting two front passengers at 160lbs and two 130lb in the back with no baggage and half tanks you’re in the envelope. With full tanks at 92g, you’ll be out of range.

Do you subscribe to Windy.com Premium subscription? Do you find it beneficial for trip planning?

Yeah I paid for it when I saw what I could do with it. The forecast models, the sounding models, the little thunderstorm/lightning animations, viewing live cameras, METARs, worth it paying the $1.5/month.

All things equal - which approach are you taking

Depending on the mood, I’ll take the ILS and if I screw it up then take the RNAV if I’m feeling like I haven’t flown an ILS in a while.

Instrument Approach Gear and Flap Sequence - A survey

For my plane, I do 120-130kts up til 3miles before the FAF then I pull power back to stabilize for 110kt or so. 1mile from intersecting the FAF I put flaps 50%, and adjust power, then at FAF when pitching down, maintain 100-105kts. Putting flaps gotta retrim the plane. If I am visual before...

Fatal Crash XLL 9/28/2022 - CFI McPherson charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

I think the employer also holds blame for not even verifying the certificates/ratings. Takes two clicks on the Airman Registry.

    SR-22 Down at Bar Harbor

Prelim NTSB report came out, wreckage was found left of the approach end of Rwy 22, witness in the field reported thick fog conditions at the time and saw the plane approaching, going full power and observed it descending rapidly on a left handed turn. https://asn.flightsafety.org/wikibase/404518

    SR-22 Down at Bar Harbor

Would the crossing altitude restriction at JESUL (at or above 780’ have anything to do with it? I see an 303ft obstacle right in the glide path. All minimums are well below the 900MSL note.

While this isn't a violation of 91.119, isn't it getting a bit too close to 91.13?

I'll be more scared not to mast bump that rotor than flying too low

    ForeFlight versions

Foreflight basic is all you'll need initially. Plus adds the georeferenced plates and helpful for taxiing on airports so there's some value there. Performance plus adds tons of functionality you won't need, like PDC (Pre-Departure Clearance), 3D view of airports (kinda useless).

How or where can I find ATC phone numbers?

You can always call the number and ask if this is the correct number, if not, what is the number.

    SR-22 Down at Bar Harbor

Yes, it has a TO/GA button on the throttle that activates missed approach mode on the avionics.

    SR-22 Down at Bar Harbor

It's also very easy to get slow on it especially on the heavier SR22 and SR22T, and it will bite you.

What is the difference between a PT and a HILPT?

A Procedure turn can be flown in the form of a castrated hold (the barbed arrow turn with an inbound/outbound heading on a IAP chart) and generally doesn't have a fix, or it can also be flown like a full hold procedure with an entry pattern around a fix or navaid.

Which single line checklist items, when missed, could lead to a crash?

Every missed checklist item could be treated as a “seriously? That wouldn’t happen to me, imagine forgetting a gust lock. Wow, that’s such bad piloting”. Sounds like pure arrogance.
