[rant] The really bad design thread

Nobody should be bad mouthing our amazing units of measure. Here is a history lesson for the unpatriotic commie heathens that are.

    Battery Lawn Mowers

I have had a 56V Ego with a 21 inch cut width for 7 years. It has worked real well and I’d get one again. A 20 minute cut is well within what I’ve gotten out a battery. Edit to add: I also have one of their leaf blowers and a power tool head that powers the string trimmer, edger and a hedge...

    If a plane were weightless...

Can this weightless plane takeoff from a treadmill moving in the opposite direction?

National Hurricane Center (Cone of uncertainty)

It may be just because there isn’t a storm that is formed enough to give a cone for. They had a cone for Beryl, unless I’m on a different page of what the cone was: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2024/BERYL_graphics.php?product=5day_cone_with_line

My 1st time going into class C at night, any advice?

Try listening in on LiveATC and follow along with one of the flight trackers like ADSB Exchange or Flight Aware to get an idea of what the comms and flow of traffic are like. https://www.liveatc.net/search/?icao=kpvd

    Diamond aspires to be Boeing.

Pressurized or not, my bowels would probably have decompressed a little. Severity of the issue would be proportional to the ratio of solids to gaseous matter of said decompression.

Man who crashed snowmobile into a parked Black Hawk helicopter suing government for $9.5M

I had a buddy that went through good natured lieutenant hazing. Got sent down to maintenance to pick up the keys to a jet, can’t remember if they told him to request a Form ID-10T to get them or not. Other good ones: make them go get a bucket of prop wash or 40 feet of flight line.

    Smoke hood?

Seems like one of those better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it type things.

    Taxiing past a taxiing drone

Yeah, waiting for them could be frustrating. Even more fun could result when they’d go lost link and RTB themselves direct through whatever ROZ happened to be between them and home. I never had the pleasure, but squadron mates had stories them fly though their orbit unannounced at co-altitude...

    Taxiing past a taxiing drone

My understanding is there are takeoff and landing qualified pilots at the field with line of site that take care of departures and arrivals. Sometime after departure they hand off control to the crews at Creech, or wherever else the ops are controlled out of. I believe there was enough latency...

    Plane crash on FL freeway

Does anyone know if the flight controls on the 604 are hydraulically boosted? If so does it have a RAT to provide pressure in an event like this?

    Richard McSpadden Crash

I don’t typically watch Dan Gryder’s videos but the one I watched yesterday he went to the site. After seeing the scene I don’t think a lack of shoulder harnesses would have made a difference, if they indeed didn’t have them. It looks like they were 15-20 feet below where the slope leveled...
