Another Cirrus Digs a Hole in Oklahoma

Just an FYI from my friends on the Taylorcraft website. Apparently a guy on there knew the owner, who had recently upgraded from an Arrow and was still in training. Don't know if the other guy killed was the instructor or not. http://www.normantranscript.com/localnews/local_story_034002335...

Cessna SkyCatcher will sell for $38,500 NEW!

My guess is they won't be allowed here, nor will their parts. Bell helicopter did that with the 47's and other helicopters. They allowed license built versions, Agusta in Italy and Kawasaki in Japan. Those helicopters, nor their parts are allowed to be used here. I'm sure something similar...

    G1000 training

Greg, Skyline at Spirit of St. Louis (SUS St Louis) offers G1000 training in 172's and DA-40's. I used to work there as a mechanic. The owner wrote one of the G1000 manual packages you can buy, ASA I think. I don't know what else they offer G1000 wise in airplanes. www.skylineaero.com

    Time for my IA, questions.

Or just go to your local FSDO's IA renewal seminar if you're not doing the minimums. "Continued education" will take care of you're yearly requirement as well. I almost never go, always have way more than the minimum. But they are usually good places to learn about new products.

    Time for my IA, questions.

Grant, Just fill out a Form 8610-1 and that's it. If you need a copy, I can email you one in .pdf format. Just fill in your experience showing that you are "active for 3 years in aviation", that's it. Not sure where you are, but if you're like me and find studying hard because you have a...

    So many choices......So little money

The S-Tec route is hard to beat, they make excellent autopilots. One of my customers had a new Chelton 2 axis A/P and WAAS 430 installed in his 182 last year. 4 trips to Autopilot Central, and all of the autopilot being replaced, it still didn't work. They finally gave him his money, removed...

    FiFi press release

I'm sooooo glad to hear they mangaged to pull it off. I thought this last engine ordeal might have sealed her doom. Figured she'd end up on static display. Glad she'll grace the skys again.

freedom in the air for disabled pilot in UK

Congratulations and welcome!!! There is nothing better than flying and congratulations on your training. I'm sure your fun and happiness is just starting. That's the beauty of aviation, there is always something new to learn, new places to go, new airplanes to fly, and new people to introduce...

    Advice on first airplane

You hinted at what I believe the biggest problem is: The perception that the chute will save you from being stupid. Nope, sorry, doesn't work that way. That's right, you can't fix stupid, but you can keep stupid from starting when you look at the big picture, get proper training, and know your...

    In-Flight Emergency Today!

That where training comes in. You won't have time to think about it. Good or bad, you'll do what you're taught. Glad you were in the pattern, that makes life a lot easier! New engines scare me! I've done hundreds of breakin flights from some very inhospitable places. If it's gonna lock...

    Advice on first airplane

That would be interesting to know. Every choice in aviation needs to be weighed. I have a friend that has one, and he had a couple hundred hours in a Tiger, got his instrument, then bought the Cirrus, and he flies it a lot. I have no doubt it can be done, just make sure you have the training...

    Advice on first airplane

True on the high performance aspect and it can be done. After spending an afternoon with my FAA buddy that is an accident investigator and looking at the numbers, I'm not a Cirrus fan for a multitude of reasons. Compare performance and type of airplane, the Cirrus vs. Columbia (now Cessna)...

Ah, Cirrus.........the torch has finally been passed, the V-tail Bonanza has finally been replaced in killing inexperienced pilots with money.

    Tornado @ Rolla/Vichy airport

I live in Cuba, but my hangar is at Rolla National (VIH or KVIH depending on your GPS). Tony, you're thinking about Fred Goodwin probably, he runs Cuba and has a Champ. He's a good guy as well. They always have cheap 100LL at Cuba, I think they are 3.65ish right now, haven't been by lately...

    Crazy Ferry Pilot Wanted

FYI a new wood Sensenich will cost you the better part of $3000, and depending on who you find to sell you a wood prop hub, count on another $1000-1500 minumum. The McCauleys aren't made any more and are starting to command some high prices. But there's a love em or hate em crowd. Count on...

    Tornado @ Rolla/Vichy airport

Believe me, if you meet no other person, you need to meet Jon Weiss once in your life. He's something else. Not only does he still love to fly, he still loves working on them. Last summer he had some health problems and we were all wondering if this was it, and if he'd finish and fly the...

    Tornado @ Rolla/Vichy airport

Yeh, I have met a lot of them coming back to small airplanes after retirement, and you're better off to just ignore them. The best part of the Champ ordeal was I could see it in his eyes before he left, he didn't have the balls to say it, but his eyes said "what are you gonna teach me kid?". I...

DG and AI gyros not spinning up w/main switch on

Mike, They are working fine. The DG and horizon are vacuum powered by the engine driven vacuum pump. The only thing that should "run" with the master on is the turn coordinator, which is electric. If you're used to hearing something run or hum with the master on, and now you don't hear that...
