    First Overnight (KCRQ Advice)

Hi Everyone, I’m planning my first overnight trip and going to KCRQ. Having never done this before, what is the process? Do I just taxi to transient parking, tie the plane down, and put some coins in the meter? (kidding). Do I radio someone and they’ll direct me in? What do you do if transient...

Free Private and Instrument Ground School

The videos up currently are from the last IFR from earlier this year. The new PPL ground starts tomorrow live via Zoom.

    Sure. Knowledge is knowledge.

Free Private and Instrument Ground School

Not quite sure what you're asking, but one ground school is for private pilot (ASEL) and the other is instrument (IRA). While I am a CFI/II, I'm not actually the one teaching the courses... it's just being offered for free at my flight school.

Free Private and Instrument Ground School

It's actually online via Zoom (should have added that). The last time our school did it there were pilots from all over the world "attending" online.

Free Private and Instrument Ground School

Thought I'd pass along that the flight school I teach at is offering a free 8 week online (via Zoom) ground school for Instrument students (or those wanting to refresh) and a 10 week private pilot ground school starting Monday. No strings attached, just giving back to the community. They did it...

Loss of LPV on an RNAV approach

I was on a VFR practice RNAV approach the other day when I lost LPV after the FAF. At that point I just flew it as an LNAV approach and used the LNAV MDA. I wasn't in actual IMC and needed to return the plane, so I just continued. But wondering if that is legal to just continue on course if you...

    Online Instrument Ground School

Not sure it's okay to post something like this, but I figured it was relevant and hopefully useful. I found out that a flight school I went to (Sling Pilot Academy) is offering free online instrument ground starting next week for anyone who is looking to move up (or refresh). The CFII (Phil)...

FAA Medical Delays Due to Pandemic?

Any idea how an expired medical will affect check rides? My 1st class expired March 31st and can't get in to see my AME until this blows over. However I have a CFI initial check ride in a few weeks. Will the DPE discontinue because my 1st class is expired? I've heard conflicting things about...

Anyone have experience with Sling Pilot Academy @ KTOA?

I met that instructor last week. Very cool guy (but I agree... he strives for excellence).

    Got my IR ticket

A lot of us in the same boat (or cockpit as it were). Got my PPL in 1989, flew a couple of years, then stopped due to college and work and eventually family. Now 28 years later, I’m deciding to change careers and fly for a living. Just started my IFR a couple of weeks ago. It’s fun and exciting...

    Cessna 172 or Piper Cherokee

I learned in a low wing and just started flying a 172. Personally I prefer the low wing because I like to be able to see into my turns (especially in the pattern). Just a personal preference.

Anyone have experience with Sling Pilot Academy @ KTOA?

The glass panel 2 seater rents out for $140/hr wet which is pretty good for Southern California.

Anyone have experience with Sling Pilot Academy @ KTOA?

Curious if anyone has the skinny on Sling Pilot Academy out of KTOA. Flew their Sling 2 and it sure was fun. I already have my PPL, so this is more about getting IFR/CPL/CFI etc and I hadn't thought about doing it in a LSA. They seem to have a pretty good accelerated program to get your ratings...

    Tales of a Rusty Pilot

So you’ve got 50 hours of training post BFR signoff? I know what you mean about not feeling ready. I’m about 7 hours in after 28 years out of the cockpit and my CFI said he’s about to sign me off. I’m still not feeling comfortable (could be how difficult the LA airspace is now). But the FBO...

    Cessna Finger?

It belongs to the FBO... but I'm going to glue a dime to the top of my finger. Good call.

    Cessna Finger?

Strange question, but does anybody get a numb finger tip from pressing the push-to-talk button on the 172 yoke? I can't think of any other reason why the very tip of my finger has no feeling after flying.
