    Airline pilots question

Coming up on 35 years of airline flying and I just couldn’t imagine a 9 to 5 job. Even though my timing wasn’t great (last pilot hired at the end of what was the longest hiring spree for the airline to that point) I still love the job.

Seek input on buying a LSA

I had a CTsw for a few years and absolutely loved it. Flew it from New York to Seattle and back (the return leg was done in 18 hours over a day and a half thanks to the autopilot). Slowing the airplane down is critical to make good landings. Think “55” on short final. Mine was maintained by...

FAA Tells Pilots To Go Analogue As GNSS ‘Spoofing’ Incidents Increase

I fly to India. (Boeing 777-300) Every leg there and back has at least one area near Ukraine where we lose our GPS signal for an hour or two. Fortunately we have inertial nav and VORs to keep us pretty close to what GPS does for us when it is working.

0B8 Fishers Island is a neat place. You can park and walk to the rocky beach that you’ll have all to yourself. $10 landing fee you pay in cash in a drop box. Two runways, 1800’ and 2345’ KBID Block Island has hiking trails across the street from the airport. Be sure to go searching for hidden...

Southwest flight 150agl 4 mile final into TPA

No idea about this particular incident, but an incorrect altimeter setting on an RNAV (non-WAAS) approach is a big deal compared with an ILS.

Alaska - Bering Strait - Little Diomede

I think it was below 140 and you don’t have to talk to anyone. But that was so long ago. Don’t take my word for it.

Alaska - Bering Strait - Little Diomede

I THINK the speed was below 140 knots. We crossed the ADIZ many times to land on the ice 200 NM north of Barrow in the Twin Otter. But that was 1991. If I were doing that today, I’d call Bering Air for fuel and advice out of Nome.

Pireps on the new Lightspeed Delta?

One reason you might prefer the CO monitor on the DeltaZulu over a panel mount is the recording function that automatically happens. You don’t even have to set it up. If the app was opened even two weeks ago, it will record the levels. Nice to see the chart.

Hertz will guarantee a vehicle type and then when you arrive tell you they don’t actually have that type. That drives me nuts. I’m considering Touro now.

Cholesterol, do I need to pick up smokin' and drinkin,??

I had to seek a doctor’s note for an interview that said my total cholesterol was fine as the ratio of LDL/HDL was good. At my interview physical (which they no longer do) my total cholesterol was 115. It’s been low ever since.

    What’s going on at United

Anecdotal here, but I haven’t flown with a better bunch of new first officers than I have in the past few years. Someone is doing something right in the hiring and training departments at my employer.
