    Life-Changing Bands (or Songs)

I was in 4th grade when this came out. Even then, I knew something wasn’t right. I grew up fast, I guess. Yes, this is the kind of music I listened to as a kid. My own kids say it explains a lot.

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

Yeah, I know, but it probably added a few tenths to the logbook entry.

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

I just looked up my student solo xc. Leg 1) 63 NM Leg 2) 76 NM Leg 3) 113 NM I’m pretty sure that last leg was technically longer because I think I used a VOR or airway on the way back so there was a dogleg. The two stops were at first-time-to-me airports. I stopped at the 2nd stop for a...

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

I was looking to visit my daughter and using that for my commercial solo. But airport to airport is 249.x NM. Fortunately there’s a small airport with cheap fuel about 10 NM on the opposite side.

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

Not too long ago, back in the stone age before tablets, we had to use paper charts. If you worked it right you could cross from the front side of the chart to the back side, then off the corner onto another sectional. That happened to me on one of my XCs. Drawing that route and measuring it...

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

My CFI sent me off on my last XC and looked at my logbook. We added up the time I needed, then looked at the Hobbs. She told me to make sure to not land until that Hobbs read (whatever) even if it meant slow flight, turns around a point, or s-turns on final. It was a non factor but a good...

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

Well, that pretty much means a new set of supporting documents. My records folder is pretty thick. The government sure runs on paperwork.

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

Thanks. That's helpful for the scheduling logistics. Maybe it's never going to be necessary, maybe not, but now I know.

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

Is there a "stale" date on that Usage report, status report, and Recert sheet? If someone had just renewed on, say, Jan 1 with that info but then did a Class II medical a few months later, would all that still be valid or would it require another visit to the treating physician? It's sounding...

A barbecue adventure, the saga unfolds.

That looks outstanding. My local grocery store sometimes has pre-marinaded tenderloins on sale, I'll pick up one or two then. Otherwise I'll do something similar to what you did. When I do pork tenderloins on the smoker and glaze them like that, they are known as "pig candy". I have a pretty...

Long Cross country 51.8nm straight line without landing at airport?

I remember seeing a guy getting back from a 2nd >50 NM xc because he was 0.1 hrs short of his 5 hrs. Stuff happens, just do it. And it isn't a do-over since it hasn't happened yet. It sounds like the first flight was a great learning experience, but it didn't check that box.

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

Thanks, yes, I'm aware there's no need for a class II for the checkride. My question really was: if I do end up in a situation where I'll want/need a class II, what about the SI? It sounds like it's not much of an issue, it just needs to go through the system to be applied to the different...

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

I’m aware of “getting” vs “using/exercising”. I was trying to anticipate options in case I get an opportunity to use it. Other than the long solo xc, I have all the prerequisites. Since I’m that close (still need written and maneuvers) I thought I might get it. After that, who knows?

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

I’m looking into getting my Commercial. Not likely I’ll ever use it, but I was trying to look at options.

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

Thanks. I already checked into that scenario: going Basic Med, not maintaining the SI, then returning back to a medical. I think, as long as the 6 year authorization hasn’t expired I just need to re-meet the normal annual requirements to get back on track.

Because chicks dig it? (Just considering options.)

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

That's not a bad idea, it still reverts to Class III privileges after 12 months, doesn't it? (Too bad I didn't consider any of this until after I renewed that Class III.) As far as I can tell, the only difference in the exam is the vision requirements.

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

*cough* The SI Authorization letter is good for 6 years - I think I still have 4 years left on it. But that letter says I need to renew the SI annually. What I *think* happens - I get the SI renewed at my Class III or on the SI annual expiration month. Then if I do get a Class II, that SI is...

Moving from Class III to Class II with SI?

Current situation: Class III, >40 yrs old SI for sleep apnea Annually, in the Fall I see my PCP, get my annual CPAP report, get my annual status report, and then see my AME. On odd years I turn in that documentation and get another annual renewal, and on even years I turn in that...

Important aspects of flying (outside of passing the checkride) that a pilot should learn for PP.

My PP CFI put me through a lot of things. One of my favorite flights was at night, partial panel, under the hood, 30 minutes or so of unusual attitude recovery. Then, “Using the instruments you have, figure out where we are, find the nearest airport, and take us there. Tell me when we’re...
